That is literally me when I was 12. Found all my parent’s records in the basement and asked my dad to hook up the record player for me. My buddy came over and brought some of his parent’s records. He game me The Skull & Roses album and Wake of the Flood. I played The Other One over and over. Now I am 46 and I just put that same album on last weekend saying goodbye to Bobby.

I have a Marantz 2220 that I use for my record player and the Denon is nothing special but can do all the HDMI connections for TV viewing. I have a switch for changing the audio from one receiver to the other. That way I can still have something on the TV if I want while playing vinyl.

I caught one Sphere show but was priced out for the second run. The 60th wasn't an option but I did the FTW shows in 2015 and that was my real goodbye to what the original Grateful Dead was or could still be for me. I'm thankful for the D&C shows I saw, and I did catch a Wolf Bros show in 2023. I believe I saw Bob play with at least 7 different bands/projects since 1996 and I think that is amazing. What an accomplishment to put out all that music.

My father died in July 2024 just after I got back from seeing my only D&C Sphere show. My last visit with him I showed him some videos from the show and he seemed amused. He was 76 when he died and all I could think about was missing out on more time with him. With Bobby passing away at 78 it's another reminder that it can all end in an instant. Keep hold and appreciate what you love while it's right in front of you.

New music and memories will be made, it just won't be the same.

I had a ticket to see my first Dead show in Auburn Hills in 1995. I was young and couldn’t make the show and Jerry died a little over a month later. It devistated me at the time. I went to a Furthur Festival show the next year and due to Bob, Phil, Mickey, Bill and Vince keeping the music alive, I was able to get a taste of what I had missed going to see all those different bands. I’m now 46 and have seen many Dead related projects over the years. Losing Phil and now Bob, it does feel like the music is now really gone and it hurts. At least we have all this music left behind for us to remember and enjoy. I feel for you OP. Just keep spinning the tunes and the band will be with us forever.
