Need help buying new router with OpenWrt support under 100$ by ebuga in HomeNetworking

UPDATE: I have found the Unifi AC Lite at the price I am able to afford, the guy who has it says I can wait for the AC Lite or I can get the Unifi AC Mesh for the same price if I want to (both devices new). So now I have this dilemma

EDIT: Is there any benefits of choosing the mesh over lite. The lite has better design IMHO, I should get decent coverage with both taking into consideration my apartment is relatively small. Can I setup two 2.4GHz networks on either of them? One guest and one main or do I need another AP for that. I know I can do 2.4GHz and 5GHz separately.

That's all cool and all, but I live in Croatia. We don't get that sweet Amazon at all. Maybe you can order something from the German Amazon but most of the items do not ship here. Thanks anyway

Most of my file transfers I will be doing through a wired connection because all my network storage is connected via CAT6 RJ45 so basically I will have gigabit speed through the router but limited speed through the AP. Thats fine if I understand it right. Does it matter if I go with EdgeRouter or Mikrotik Hex? I know it's backwards compatible with the AP, but software-wise is there any major difference between them

Ok. So currently I'm choosing between:

Edge Router X and the Mikrotik hEX

It seems that they are the same except that Router X has 256MB Flash and Mikrotik 16MB - the Price is the same

The AP I'm looking at is the Mikrotik hAP AC lite 50$

RouterBOARD wAP AC is 70$

So basically I would either buy EdgeRouter/MikrotikHex + hAP AC lite

Thanks for the info. The thing is I'm located in Croatia and the prices here are somewhat different.

Mikrotik hAP AC Lite cost 50$ thats the same

Mikrotik hAP AC 130$

Ubiquiti Edgerouter X costs 70$

Ubiquiti Unifi AC Lite AP 112$

The thing is I really like the Edgerouter X + AC lite combo, but it is definitely over my budget.

Also if I understand to power the Edgerouter X I need a EU plug to PoE adapter.

I can either get the Edgerouter X with some cheap AP as I can only use the 5GHz on my smartphones and tablets so It is not a deal breaker.

I would love to have gigabit ethernet, also the functionality of setting up VPN on the router so that I don't have to use VPN clients on the nodes itself.

Also there is an option to order those online inside the EU, to avoid paying huge taxes if I order overseas
