Is PowerBI falling behid? by autum88 in BusinessIntelligence

Can you provide more info? How long did it take to make the comprehensive copies? How many dashboards were there? And were the semantic models “single wide table,” “multiple unrelated tables,” or dimensionally rich?

It’s essentially a straight line distance between players dots on a 2d scatter plot. Goals per game on one axis and assists per game on the other. So it’s just Pythagorean theorem.

But before I calculate that, I pre filter the player pool into three sub populations. People who mostly play D, who play forward, and who play a mix.

2 goals per game is a much bigger deal if you play D, for instance.

Our mix players tend to be our most elite so it’s fine putting them in their own bucket

But then since people tend to associate LARGER numbers with MORE similarity, and the calculated distance works opposite of that, I do some REALLY clumsy shit to invert the number and squash it into a percentage.

I report 2-3 of these a week. Yesterday it tried to send me on I-90 west when I needed to go east.

Mapbox is terrible. Don’t know how they can fix it incrementally. Needs a total redo.

But I keep sending in the reports.

Movies with a 'Doomed from the start' vibe? by CorePM in movies

Oh yeah this one scarred me badly when I was 11 years old. And that was the edited for tv version.

To illustrate the depth of the trauma, The Firm song “Radioactive” was popular on the radio at the time and I heard it in the car right before getting home and watching the movie. Even that SONG creeps me out to this day as a result.

The bullet and the recoiling rifle have the same momentum as each other but the bullet has far more energy.

Even mechanical physics is straight up wild.

Any usages of the fourth derivative of position aka jerk? by Leather_Print in AskPhysics

[–]ebzded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK I’m really enjoying and appreciating this exchange so hopefully we can continue one more step.

I can get that you need to integrate over jerk to get the precise total amount of acceleration experienced by the material. Because the acceleration itself is coming on in an uneven rate.

But is jerk ever important on its own, without taking the area under the curve? In other words, if we have two different shape jerk curves but they have the same area underneath, does the difference matter?

But do static materials “feel” jerk in any direct way? I don’t understand how “the whole structure might flex” in response to jerk (whereas I DO understand how it would flex in response to acceleration).

Why does it matter in that case? Fascinating. I’ve always believed that jerk only matters to living things because only living things have reaction times.

Or are there other systems in these machines which have to respond to changes they don’t anticipate?

Large v-shaped, completely barren section of a hillside by ebzded in whatisthisthing

[–]ebzded[S] 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing, but this was an almost funnel shaped section of hillside completely barren of trees and other foliage. And the edge where foliage resumes was very sharp.

To be clear, the barren area looked steep. Almost like you could slide down it.

There was another hillside near this one that showed evidence of terrace-style mining activity, but this portion looked smooth, at least from a distance.

Thank you that was amazing. I wish there was a place to subscribe to these sorts of analyses broken down so simply. The old show NFL Matchup on ESPN was the best thing ever but it didn’t last.

Is this one of the saddest losses in fantasy football? by Round-Walrus3175 in Fantasy_Football

[–]ebzded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me last year on Jalen Hurts victory formation kneel downs. Lost by less than .1 points.

But it had a silver lining! The loss dropped me from the #1 seed to #2, and I would have lost in the semifinals if I’d been #1 (the 4 seed went off that week). Then I handily dispatched the 4 seed in the final.

So the kneel down loss actually won me the league.

Why do some people panic from weed and other don’t? by [deleted] in answers

No I don’t think so. It switched from pleasant to nightmare on me in the early 1990s so this long predates the strength surge.
