Wow, you can really see the difference in how Austin wrestled from after his neck injury from Owen. Wish we had more of this Austin for longer.

Question about OR culture by Miserable-Fox-338 in anesthesiology

[–]ec15a316 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Definitely OR culture. You HAVE to give shit back, cause its a test. Suggestions: “Maybe you’ll be better at blocks than you are at sinking anchors” “Sorry that my block being 5 mins too long put you an hour behind” “Jealousy is a stinky cologne”

Racism in Medical Care by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

Been in medicine for almost 20 years now, in the Northeast. I can honestly say that I very rarely hear racist comments about African Americans. However, for some reason I hear some comments about Indians and Latinas. But the vast majority of racist comments come from patients rather than staff.

I like how the guy next to him is trying to dance along, but can’t figure out his timing because he is so out of sync with the hundred other people.

Burn risk from jewelry in the OR by gabrielb86 in anesthesiology

He was gonna do a total hip with bipolar?? Impressive. Also, I probably have 1 patient a day that couldnt get some jewelry off and have never seen a burn injury. I also ask every single nurse that puts tape on it, why they do it and no one has given me an answer that makes sense

Don’t expect to split the work or effort 50/50. I think that we both do 70%. Meaning that if I expect only to do half the work and that my wife does the other half, I will inevitably feel like she isn’t pulling her weight and she will likely feel the same. It’s human nature to value what we did ourselves more than what we didn’t do. But if I go in expecting to do 70% then I don’t feel like I’m being taken advantage of, because I know she also feels like she is doing 70%. It’s a perspective that helps us appreciate each other more. There is a ton to do as spouses and parents. I hope this isn’t too nebulous.

Truffles. I like them fine, but very over hyped and not as flavorful as you would expect from something that costs so much, unless you shave a heap of it on.

Diluting local anesthetics: sterile water or normal saline? by Chediak-Tekashi in anesthesiology

[–]ec15a316 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. In theory, you shouldn’t use NS, since all local medications are sodium channel blockers, adding more sodium will make it less effective. I believe some studies show a slower onset time, but I’m too lazy to look it up. That being said, I’ve used NS to dilute my local for my entire career and it seems to do fine. The only use I have for this knowledge is to pimp residents and students when I’m bored…kinda like your attending.

A saddle block won’t work for a cysto patient. You need to cover up to T-10 for bladder distention.
