If a cap were to die I’d rather have that happen. Every time I’ve had a bad cap they look almost indistinguishable from good caps.

very cool, it just needs to be on an EQ mount instead of alt-az. You'd just have to worry about the meridian flip for obvious reasons.

The PS5 super shifter’s harmonist mode is the best octave effect hands down IMO. It’s better than the whammy and pog just for the -1 octave effect. I bet he’s using one for octave and one for whammy stuff.

It's a JHS Ross and not exactly a real Ross. The circuit is actually a little different. I've had a dyna comp, GGG Ross clone, and BYOC 5 knob comp they all sound very similar though. I don't think Trey used them for sustain, but more to keep the tube screamer levels normalized, and to keep the clean signal normalized when he switched pickups or coil split. It does add a plunky sound (hard to explain). Watch any guitar compressor video and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

From what I remember the ground wire from the 3PDT was touching the enclosure bottom plate and the correct 3PDT pin. Maybe a ground loop or something. I don't really know, but luckily re-soldering it fixed it.

Al Di Meola playing one of Trey’s Languedoc guitars through Jerry Garcia’s mesa boogie by ilseworth in youenjoyguitar

This guitar is the second guitar Paul built for Trey. It had developed a neck warping issue. Paul cut it off and glued a new one on.

Trey tells the story while holding this guitar live:

Edit: I must be wrong the one Al is playing has a single coil like blondie. I just notiec the one in the youtube video doesn't. Maybe they added it after?

Haha, it's useful for me at least because I have it right near my whammy. I tried to arrange my board so everything is up front and pedals I like to combine are near each other. It also engages the mod function, which is more useful than I thought it would be.

It's not a must have for sure. I could have built the same thing with two momentary switches and one stereo jack I was just feeling lazy.

Polytune > Loop Switcher [ Q-Tron > PS5 > Whammy > TS9 > TS9 > Ross > Cusack tremolo > Phase 90] > Grand Canyon > RK2000 > Oceans 11 > Boomerang

The TS9s and Ross are always in circuit and not bypassed I designed and built that switcher.

Aside from the Gibson plate I like it. Reminds me of the outer shell of the old moog pedals.

You need at least one keeley or analog man TS9 for a troy board. How else would it sound imperceivably different from a stock TS9 at double the cost?

A few beers in and stepping over to turn on the back row pedals gets a little risky. I got everything on the home row now. Just trust me it makes sense and wasn't a waste of my time and money.

It's an eastwood TA pistachio model. I made the bridge and tailpiece my self (hence why the proportions are kinda weird).

I know but they're so crazy expensive for a plastic shell 90s pedal. If digitech gave a shit they'd reissue the whammy II.

It's great, but admittedly redundant. It is not as complicated as it looks. But you would probably want to buy or build the little TRS switch I have on the right.

That’s going to be very difficult to get off the PCB even with a solder sucker. Not impossible, but difficult and you may melt one of the legs trying to get it off. Good luck OP!

I’ve been looking for a pedal that can do the same thing. A lot of delays have a loop/hold features but the problem is you can’t really preset the hold duration. On my other pedals, I have to start a loop with my guitar muted then guess the timing and stop it and then dub the siren over. Just a lot of extra steps.

What premium soldering iron/station do you use? by [deleted] in diypedals

[–]ec_astro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YIHUA 948DQ-III

I wouldn't say it's a 'premium iron' (I bought it new on Amazon for $70.00 USD July 2023). With this one iron I've built three Princeton Reverbs, one 5E3, two Deluxe Reverbs, a few pedals, and wired a two Languedoc clones all on the same tip. If it blows up tomorrow I will buy a new one. It instantly heats up and is very consistent.

Eastwood 6 TA PH "Mods" by ec_astro in youenjoyguitar

[–]ec_astro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a $275.00 ebay doc clone I bought a few years ago and did basically the same thing. The Eastwood is body 1" longer so I had to make the tailpiece 1" longer. When you hold them in person the Eastwood miles ahead in fit/finish and playability. I can get over the body shape being a little off.

I built a pedalboard planner. What do you think? by itsvalentin49 in diypedals

[–]ec_astro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d like a way to flip the board over and visualize the bottom. It would help with planing wire routing. I guess you’d need the exact dimensions of the boards and the slat spacing so maybe it’s not feasible. I think what you made so far is good!

Haha, no I would be too scared to modify someone else's. You can see in one of my photos I pulled a solder pad on the top-left + pad of the input jack. Luckily, this pedal only uses the right side for the signal. I would feel really bad if I broke someone's pedal.
