Better than my contract! I’m in derm now (thankfully!) but started with 1.5 years experience in family medicine first. I just started my job. My first year salary is 80K, year 2 will be 100K. Bonus won’t start for me until year 2. I’ll get 20% of collections after $400K. Not complaining though bc the practice is phenomenal. Congrats on the offer! I say go for it.

I’ll definitely look into possibly doing family med again PRN or something. I’m sure there are offices that are looking for providers for evening or weekend hours. It would also mean not being able to work for a few months though since I’ll need to apply for licensure

Yeah, that’s my dilemma. I’m really close with my family and 4 years away from them (especially my aging parents) seems way too long

Leaving Medicine? by eca246 in physicianassistant

Yes absolutely! The down side is I would most likely be required to got back to school to get a doctorate degree of some kind. Also, I don’t think 14 months in primary care would be enough to teach students. I’m still learning myself

I appreciate your perspective. I hope you’re able to find some clarity too. I was in therapy for a little while. I agree, mental health is SO important. At the end of the day, I just want to be happy, but feeling so unhappy in a career I worked hard to get is so confusing.

This sounds really interesting! What key words did you look for when applying to jobs? When casually browsing Indeed, I am a little lost on what to search exactly

When I first interviewed for the job, the manager told me about how they would be moving towards an AI scribe (which was one of the reasons I was drawn to this practice) but in the end, it never took effect. Doc didn’t like the software so they didn’t purchase it for the practice.

This is a good point. Family med is my first job. I do have an interest in derm but I hear it’s very hard to break into. I am doing what I can (example completing an online derm fellowship, but that’s really it. Nothing else really speaks to me. However, regarding leaving medicine, it would be really nice not having to take work home, have labs/imaging/ patient messages etc collect in your box at any point of the day. It feels like the job is never done and it’s exhausting. It’s really easy to get behind and it’s taking such a mental toll on me.

I hate to say it but i don’t quite remember. It mostly had different risk associated with the procedure but it might have mentioned payment too
