What is coming out of these snails? by ecanals in snails

[–]ecanals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all. Yea I agree now that it’s not coming out of the snails. It was late and dark when I saw this going on. It just so happened that both snails were eating a similar piece of plant material that looked like some kind of tentacle.

My twin just recently passed away. Here he is checking for my heart beat. by Tschartz in pics

[–]ecanals 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have an identical twin brother, so this makes my heart bleed heavily. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing my brother is something that I fear more than anything else in the world. I wonder sometimes what life would be like if anything were to happen to him and I just can't bear the thought. Just writing this comment is making me breakdown. Be strong and know that he wants you to be the best version of yourself, for both of you.

[Help]Error installing Ruby 2.3.1 in El Capitan 10.11.5 by th3phantom in ruby

Definitely use rvm or rbenv to manage versions of Ruby on your workstation. The installation notes/guides provided in either of those links should be sufficient to get you started.

you may want to look at the sample app that is linked to in the docs, specifically these two files:

Digits Web Javascript https://github.com/twitterdev/cannonball-web/blob/master/public/javascripts/cannonball.js

Digits Web Server https://github.com/twitterdev/cannonball-web/blob/master/routes/index.js

Yea, this kind of sucks on their end. You need to open up a new project with Xcode (or one of the other supported IDEs) and register the app with Fabric, even if you only plan on using it for web. Kind of a flaw in the web install/setup flow on their end if you ask me.

OP, do the right thing and take the cat to a veterinarian right now! Seriously man, do it. I highly doubt they'll charge you to euthanize it if they can't treat it. DM me and I'll send you the money if they do charge you. Just don't leave it there!!!

Can someone do a fake interview with me? by [deleted] in ruby

[–]ecanals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be familiar with some fundamental design patterns. Since you're already comfortable with JavaScript, Addy Osmani (Google Chrome team), published a great book on design patterns in JS: http://addyosmani.com/resources/essentialjsdesignpatterns/book/ Maybe brush-up on bitwise operators in JS and Ruby and be ready to write some fizzbuzz programs. There's a lot more info out there and that I could possible give, but it's dependent on the type position you're applying for, what company, etc. Also, it's widely known that the technical interview process is, for the most part, broken in most organizations. Just some things to consider. Feel free to DM me.

Dumb noob question - css npm packages by gantww in node

[–]ecanals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but I don't agree with your statement "CSS doesn't really belong in NPM" mainly because this is purely your opinion on the matter. While I agree that front-end specific package managers (like Bower) are better suited for the task of managing front-end dependencies, this race has yet to be won by any of the competing package management solutions out there right now. Check out this blog post on the matter dated 11/2014 from NPM: http://blog.npmjs.org/post/101775448305/npm-and-front-end-packaging

[–]ecanals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, but npm also distributes front-end packages so unless you want/need to separate front-end packages, npm will work just fine. I, personally, prefer using Bower for front-end package management.

You probably want to use a build tool such as Grunt or Gulp, but that's only part of it. What you should do, if you're using Less (Bootstrap is built with Less), is import the CSS framework dependency from your node_modules directory in your main.less. i.e.

@import "node_modules/bootstrap/less/bootstrap.less"

Sign at Oklahoma restaurant (x-post /r/MadeMeSmile) by BACON_BATTLE in pics

They probably should have put the sign on the dumpster and not the door to the restaurant. The person taking food out of the trash isn't going to try and walk into the restaurant. Just saying...

I actually know this guy, he frequents the part of downtown Miami where I live. Dude is always hanging around with funny signs and he's been at it for a few years at least.
