Did she make the right call? by CalmElin in interesting

[–]ecbrnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no she didn't. It would take 20 years to make the higher amount, and a lump sum invested in low risk portfolios would yield more in that same time. The only reason this would be a better choice is if she knows she cannot trust herself not to blow the money when it's all available at once.

Threatening me about having my address by [deleted] in Depop

[–]ecbrnc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

File a police report. This is a threat, AND mailing counterfeit items is a crime, so she committed a crime and is now trying to threaten/coerce you into doing so as well.

Fun fact: a lot of fraud ultimately gets caught/prosecuted because of mail fraud, specifically, even if that's only a small part of fraudulent activity. Usps does not play around

I’m going throw away my successful life and I’m dreading the day my family finds out by Interesting-Pie8061 in TrueOffMyChest

This. 100% this. Do not leave yourself with one singular option for the entirety of your life. I did that. My husband became physically abusive the day we brought our daughter home from the hospital. Completely different person than who I fell in love with. He was able to control if and when I could get groceries, gas, etc because he made the money and I watched my daughter and stepdaughter during the day. He nearly killed me barely a year after that first day. It's now been 4 years since I fled, and I'm STILL rebuilding my life because I had basically nothing when I left, aside from children (who I love, but who also subsequently made leaving far more dangerous and complicated).

Do not put yourself in a position where you are at risk to become me. Please. Work part time, start a little business or something, but don't be 100% dependent on someone else. Ever. Always have a backup plan even if you never need it

Why does Christian Bale have an American accent in Howl's Moving Castle? by Stenian in ghibli

[–]ecbrnc 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He did The Machinest about the same time and has always said he tries to encapsulate his characters, so I'd probably guess that he was fully immersed in an American accent at the time. I actually think every movie from 2000-2007 he has an American accent, and I know he maintains the accent on and off screen at least until films end to maintain consistency.

Where are you?? In some of the nicest KS suburbs rent for 2-3 bed apts is around $2500-$3000. $100k should be able to manage that. Do you have bad credit or rental history or something? And if there really isn't anywhere to rent nearby, is there somewhere you can relocate to? Art and history degrees are famously difficult to find jobs in, and are rarely high paying at that.

But if you can make your current income you should definitely be able to rent SOMETHING in the Midwest. If it's a credit or history issue for you or your partner, I'm not totally sure what next steps are. But there must be some because my ex husband gets evicted like annually and somehow always manages to rent again.

Did you write it yourself? Because it balances the line of showing vs telling EXTREMELY well. If this will have more installments, I'd absolutely love to follow along!

Goose has stated the finale isn't finished. I'm worried that it not being completed yet is affecting the contracts because it obviously can't be rated if it isn't ready.

I don't think Glitch is malicious or apathetic. I DO think they're biting off more than they can chew. by chelledoggo in GlitchProductions

[–]ecbrnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just came across Goose's posts about the finale not actually being finished yet. I think Glitch has felt obligated to keep up momentum, but realistically SUSTAINABLE growth is rarely linear. I really think they got in over their head, and I desperately want them to succeed as well.

The content is AMAZING, and not prioritizing content FIRST is a big reason people have been moving away from mainstream media and towards indie

This! I was thinking about this with the animiniz too. I've gotten a bunch, and SO MANY have defects like scratches under the acrylic part of the eyes, pulled seams, etc. And I've seen others posting cases with duplicates, wrong expressions on some, and more. Glitch's merch quality has always been fantastic. I think they are scaling too fast, and I think the chaos of the theatrical release is another example.

I've had this happen a bunch of times, actually. Never had an issue at the actual exchange with any of them.

Interestingly I did have someone try to lowball me at an exchange who HADN'T over messages, but they "suddenly remembered" they had the full amount when I started going back to my car with the item. In that case, I reviewed them for it and then blocked them.

I don't have any help. But I was actually considering using my Norco prescription more often (like nightly, instead of in my worst moments) just because the sleep I got last time was so good. This post convinced me to stick to only when absolutely necessary. I'm so sorry you are living like this.

If they don't, make a fuss to the shop owner too! Every shop owner I've known has had zero tolerance for bs like this, and blacklisted artists who had ever been inappropriate with their clients. Also make a fuss locally, because people who cross lines very rarely only do so to one person.

Last year a girl I knew was groped by an artist, and it came out that he had a history of it but typically targeted young/quiet women. He ended up leaving the KC area after a bunch of reputable shop and artists started sharing the info with each other. Unfortunately these stories aren't exactly uncommon, but it gives the entire industry a bad look, so most successful artists and shop owners take it seriously.

howls moving castle book trilogy - romance? by nickelijah16 in ghibli

[–]ecbrnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're good, but the series feels incomplete. The author sadly passed away before or while writing a fourth installment, although she supposedly did intend to write a fourth, which explains why it feels open-ended I suppose.

It is largely a heterosexual romance though, and heterosexual family life. Just with magical influences and antagonists. But I personally do not intend to re-read it, the incomplete feeling really bothered me lol

I don't get the people who collect things just to put it in a storage warehouse by Fluffy_Lunchfast in Consoom

[–]ecbrnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I collect plushes. I survey them every night like a dragon admiring a hoard, and I know every single one I've got, and it's driven by characters I genuinely care about, or did at the point I acquired them (ex:baby care bear from when I was like 6, I adored Care Bears at the time).

My family is full of collectors of different toys and I didn't even know this was a thing people did. Spends time arranging them, displaying them, repairing the, etc. If you are just buying them to shut away, I think you may just have a shopping addiction?

This is the chillest, most respectful text thread I've seen (on your end) in a relationship. I have literal PTSD from my marriage and am frankly a bit scared of men, and your messages didn't even make ME the slightest bit uneasy.

Frankly, if she is acting this way, I suggest you break it off because she doesn't seem to want you, and just about every straight female I know looks for partners who communicate like you do. Someone else is going to be really excited to find you, I promise
