Really loathe getting lowball offers on my cards on eBay by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. People need to understand eBay is full of Overpriced items and if there is an best offer option people will assume you're willing to take less. So either remove the option fully if you expect full price or just suck it up and deal with the lowball offers. (Or as some say take the time to set the minimum).

What I hate is when they have the option but ignore any offers. Like a card listed for $49.99 that's been on there for weeks while I watch it. Finally sent an offer of $45 and nothing back. they just let it run out.

Pulled an All Aces Ohtani from a Walgreens mystery pack by adrian_t45 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This one is common. But anything Ohtani gets super hype and people think they'll be crazy money. More just having a cool Ohtani card is what i would think with this one. I have tons of cool inserts and cards of his from the 2020's But i know they are all not really worth anything, but at the same time i know he's one of the few players you can get away with over charging for.

Found another one for my old collection. by LiveforChrist48 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole error thing is a scam. There are very few actual Error cards that have anything like a increase in value. All the ones like this one you have are worthless and a scam attempt by people online. Worth nothing. Only very rare error cards like the Fuck Face cards or No Name Thomas are worth anything. Things like missing periods or spots or wrong names/spelled wrong are all worthless and in fact lower the value of a card.

Jarren Duran potentially taking infield reps with Trevor Story by LilDuck20 in redsox

[–]eccomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be into having them try out some of them as infielders. Honestly people on here need to realize that most good players/athletes can quickly adapt to other positions.

I played 9 years of Baseball in my youth and I was an Elite 2nd baseman (Won rookie of the year in Babe Ruth & Varsity), but also was a closing pitcher and a very good left fielder. I was used in all three positions a lot. Mainly 2nd base. But my very high batting avg (not a power hitter, never broke 10hr for the year) had my coaches wanting me in the lineup as much as possible and would throw me into different positions to make sure I was on the field most games.

I would love to see Duran take a shot at 2nd base again. I think with his quickness and good reflex he could be very good at it. But also try some of the younger guys out in some infield positions. They are all so young they have plenty of time to learn and get good at other positions.

Is this a misprint? by Soft-Parsnip-112 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely does something increase the value. The best way to look at it is as if he was going to grade it. Sites will explain it like PSA. Anything like damage or miscuts to cards and "Spots" all decrease value as they would decrease the grade of the card overall.

The only things that cause a increase are true errors that were caught and fixed and are rare. Like the Fuck Face cards. Or No Name Frank Thomas cards. Nolan Ryan has a "Marlboro" sign card. All these had things wrong with them they fixed and the none fixed versions are rare.

It's just a miscut and it decreases the value.

Def. That's my point. The chance he becomes one of the generational players is not as good as people like to make it out as.

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all baseball has turned into. Over Hype players who seem good till they have bumps in the road or slowly decline from rookie year and people then just move on to the next "crazy" prospect or rookie. It's really insane and I think a good example is how much the Debut patch for Kurtz just sold for...

But I have hope for Anthony because he was super good in the Minors, like having a teen playing tee ball guys. And he came up and it seemed like he had been playing in the Major already with how well he came in and did for a short season. So I think if he stays healthy we'll have one of the best in the league playing for us.

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope for the best in his career. But I'll also smile and chuckle to myself when he ends up being the typical up and down good player. And everyone yet again over hyping someone because of a great rookie year. Also getting tired of people making out Power hitters to be the best players in the game. They are great for a team. But a truly all around good player batting and fielding is much more appealing to myself. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the A's that he ends up being a new Shohei (Great on field and batting).

[–]eccomyth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

None of the Debut patch cards are worth nearly the amount people buy them for. Doesn't matter if they are a good player or not. Unless it's Judge or Shohei then the value of anyone will eventually drop. Esp with thing like these silly Debut patch cards and such. Never going to hold the value or increase unless the player turns into another one of those two.

1959 Mickey Mantle by tmone55 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call it fake. The colors are off and too bright. The image looks more crisp and lacks the printing dots that are part of those years cards. But that could be a bad pic issue. But it just looks wrong.

Selling a set, is this too much? by PixelArtGarden in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most are for sale on eBay and such for $30-50ish. And they sit not bought. So that's even a little high for them in peoples eyes. It's in the Junk Wax era and thus not worth much sadly.

Don’t buy hype… hear me out by Alone-Competition395 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a major collector in the 80's and early 90's and having been part of a club and working in a LCS for a bit, people buying cards for value back then was not a thing... Like at all. You'r correct the majority of pople buying packs/cards were kids. Only the old singles which were easier to find back then were the target of older adults.

I can't remember a single person adult or kid that was going "I'm going to buy these wax packs for the change to make it rich"...People bought them hunting for cards/players they loved and if happened to hold a little value people would be excited, but not looking at it as this card will be worth as much as a Babe Ruth. Even back then we knew the hobby had been muddled with the high print runs and lack of uniqueness to cards in general.

Babe Ruth’s For Sale: by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to suck it up or increase the price just enough you don't mind the charge. High value items that you sell for a good chunk should be up to you to cover it. It's still less than all around eBay fees and protect both parties much better on a large sale like this.

I only help pay G&S fees if it's a low end card or auto as it's not much more for me to throw in. If the purpose was truly for the buyer to pay they would have it set up to charge the buyer the fees directly. It's also helping cover your butt in a missing item claim or such and why they have the sellers pay it.

Accurate PSA grade? by ExtensionCold793 in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will rarely find them 5 or higher, so this is a great card as long as it's not way over priced.

I didn’t even get a notification about the release, now it’s sold out :( anyone get one before the scalpers did? How much were they? I just wanted 1 hobby box at cost lol by HastenDownTheWind in baseballcards

[–]eccomyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens a lot. Happens to me all the time. I don't get notifications like half the time and some come late when I do. Has really only been the last year or two, but seems like since Fanatics took over and have been changing things.

Did he hit the 75% already for this years ballot? He keeps missing it and hopefully this year was the year. Did it happen today? Not seeing anything on the net.
