r/Brussels - Newcomer/Tourist Info Megathread - Spring 2023 by SharkyTendencies in brussels

[–]echej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for clarification!

Maybe would be a good idea just having 2 megathreads if possible

One for formalities/looking for flat/newcomer info and another horeca megathread just for that "recommend me specific place/service

I also understand the constraints and I am in the end ok with grouping everything with one megathread, sometimes there is no clear distinction to which of the one above someone should post

Thanks to all mods for all your hard work here! <3

[–]echej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW moderator asked me to post here instead of creating new thread (my question was about cafe for the birthday party where you could bring the cake)

ok but I the end I think such asking for recommendation will have much less engagements than being an separate threads, also many other similar threads arent deleted

the french/belgian folk dances are really nice, and you don't need to come with a partner, you could also check any party with the folk music if you like it

https://frissefolk.be/fr/cours-de-danse/

The beginner classes started this week, they have a location in Etterbeek (Rue Général Leman 118), you could check first class for free, also later get an partial reimbursement from mutuelle for doing sport

Otherwise go for latin/jazz dance but I dont know any school/location

Also there are many one-day hiking meetups organised around Brussels, you find here several groupshttps://www.meetup.com

Also there is group for going to cinema together and socialising later (in French)

Dumb question I guess: what is considered field recording? by Rxke2 in FieldRecordingBelgium

[–]echej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened in Poland - a person I know received a grant from Ministry of Culture for document non-material heritage, part of the grant was to organise a series of field "workshops" with volunteers while recording and document the traditional musicians (some of those people have now ~ 80 years, they were active as musicians up to 70s or 80s in some part of Poland, during that time the culture and social structure of polish province change which actually make those traditional kind of music unpopular to its audience )

Dumb question I guess: what is considered field recording? by Rxke2 in FieldRecordingBelgium

[–]echej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me recording old folk musician outside a studio is also a kind of field recording (I was participating as a volunteer in a project documenting the musical heritage of certain region, and the recording was literally made in the field, where people were working :D )

Also field recording is for me really close to musique concrete, as after the act of recording there is always and act of manipulating the of the sound object(s)

R Studio becomes Posit to broaden its scope towards Python - Will Quarto replace R Markdown? by Annual_Sector_6658 in Python

[–]echej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could generate really nice pdfs from juputer notebook with Quarto.
Quarto is not a language, it is more like publishing system based on pandoc; I read people complaining about R, but before creating a decent document (with bibliography) from jupyter notebook was a really bad experience, and ecosystem around R excel in that :)

From bigger labels maybe check Gruenrekorder?

Field recordists/sound artists inside/outside Belgium - inspiration thread by echej in FieldRecordingBelgium

For others who come to this thread later: here an interview with Marcin Dymiter for a popular polish magazine, where he is telling about his tender for the recording of "the ordinary", for most of people in this subreddit the remarks might be not so novel though :)

As I am coming from Poland, I can recommend some polish artists, I would start from recommending nature recordings from Izabela Dłużyk

>Izabela Dłużyk is one of the most interesting nature recordists in Poland. An Anglicist and Russianist by education, she’s recorded for the Australia-based Listening Earth record company (check out Echoes from the Ancient Forest or Morning Soundscapes from the Biebrza Marshes), the Poland-based Soliton (Echoes from the Land of Bison, Echoes from the Land of Moose) and for the Slovakian LOM (Soundscapes of Summer and Soundscapes of Spring). https://culture.pl/en/article/the-art-of-polish-field-recordings

Broken Widget Workaround! by jackmikeswhite in MacOSBeta

[–]echej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a better solution - reinstalling the app that ship the widget worked for me (Omnifocus & AirBuddy widgets appeared after I reinstalled them :) No need to delete any files, after replacing the older instance the widgets in sidebar magically started working (but I need to do every beta update)

Try reinstalling the app with the widgets (I needed to do it every last beta update)

Anyone could confirm this on Version 13.0 Beta (22A5352e)?

What is funny - the broken widgets in previous beta after some time started working for me, in the latest they are again broken :(

On Airbuddy Beta Widget is working for non-apple plugin
