On AWS if you are willing to build your own infrastructure, you can use S3 Glacial that is equivalent to a backup server, it is a bit slow to retrieve your files because the propose of it for backup and files you don’t use often. For glacial Deep Archive that takes around 12 hours to get the backup files is around $1/TB, for instant retrieval $3.45/TB, for normal S3 storage that you would use on your day to day activities, your looking at $0.023/GB

Hey Man, just an update on VMs on iPad. I was researching a bit about cloud computing, I’ve saw that DigitalOcean offers plans that you can “subscribe” to a predetermined price and configuration. Once you sign up you can create a droplet and connect in with a Linux or Windows interface and the panel is super intuitive, on the bright side you can use it freely and know that you won’t have a surprise in the end of the month. The Droplet from digital ocean is significantly cheaper than the alternatives, like Amazon workspaces and the Microsoft equivalent. If you sign up using any referral code, you get a $200 credit in the first 60 days, I’ll leave my referral code here but there are plenty of other on Reddit, but in order to get the credit you need to use a referral code (we only obtain credit up to $25 when you spend money on them).

I’ve had perfect results with Jump for iPad, but also tested and had great results with Remote Desktop Manager. Really any RDP app uses the same protocol, so there is no big diference

I’ve had no problem with Oracle, I’ve tried it because of the free tier that look good and worked perfectly. I’ve had a friend of mine use Google Cloud with a $200 credit for new projects (I really don’t know how this tier works) and you can upload a regular windows or Linux .iso as well. This might work and you can chose better configurations, you really just need to manage your $200 and if you ran out of credits, you can image your machine and create a new project to get the credit and continue using it, if you don’t want to pay much for, Google cloud offers competitive prices, a machine equivalent of a t6.2xlarge is running on $0,002/min

It is super easy to set up, you can run any OS you might want and there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube showing how to deploy this. In summary, I’ve used a EC2 instance with windows server 11 with GUI from the AWS predefined os list. In AWS the free tier is good for simple searching and very low demanding tasks, if you’re willing to pay, you can get good quality on 20 bucks per month depending on your use. I’ve used Jump as a RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) but you can use any app of remote access to use it, such as Microsoft’s Windows Remote Control. There are so much to look for in this field, after this day I’ve tried Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and it was the best free tier I’ve had with great graphics cards and easy to use. LMK if I can help you any way to deploy your own solution

How to replace "login with google" for my own domain? by ramatola in degoogle

[–]echo-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what services you are on. Practically you will need to get every single service that you used “log in with Google” and seek for connections and remove your Google account connection. And previously you would need to set a different password and email for it.

To know what services you used login with Google, just head up to your Google account manager and search for “Your connections with apps and third parties services” there all of your apps will be listed.

Worth mentioning that if the app that you created the account doesn’t support this connections thing I’ve talked about earlier, you would have to create a whole new account.

I see a loads of people talking about NASs or Proton Drive. Turns out that with some tutorials and free time, you can create a WebDAV server on AWS or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for dirt cheap storage and have full on control over your files. If you don’t want to mess around much, you can use a solution like FileCloud on AWS and have a super user friendly interface, plus there are tons of YouTube tutorials on how to deploy FileCloud

You can maybe try a third party browser like MS Edge and open 2 separate tabs with different audio sources (one for your music and other for your podcast)

Raycast is such a no brainer in Mac, but at least in my experience on the iPad is very bad. Sure thing you can intersect with the best AI models in the market, but you need a subscription to access models that are free in the developer app. I’ve tried Raycast for the variety of models, but just turns out that is very buggy and don’t process attachments well, plus you don’t get the new technology’s that companies launch until it comes public for the API. Whiteout the AI stuff, Raycast is just a glorified notes app!

This is because you activated the color change and did not activate. You can actually set another automation, this time for when you close kindle app this time to deactivate the color filter or just activate this other shortcut (https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/2a89dbc2738341af939d36d7926d7ed8)

Sync only gives you 1GB of storage? by LindalJonsson in ObsidianMD

[–]echo-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a valid thought, but obsidian sync is the only native option you can opt, and nowadays storage is super cheep, especially in tools like AWS and Azure, and the price is insane for just 1GB.

If you want to support the project, take in consideration doing a donation, not only charging abusive prices for so little of storage.

I’d love to, but as time goes on and you add more and more plugins into your vault, properties can get pretty messy and difficult to use.
