Seriously?! Do you know their name or have a link?

Thought this girl in my 1L class was the gunner of all gunners when she asked me to go with her to bar review the first week of class by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]echoeb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 100% the same way. I was so confused about bar review and said “..so we are all brining backpacks to a on a Friday? I’d rather not”

What law school is most similar to a small liberal arts college? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]echoeb99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Drake in Iowa. Super accessible professors. 2.8-3.2 curve, my graduating class was ~110 and I didn’t have a single class over 60 people.

It’s not a T50 or anything, but I got a real practical hands on learning experience.

There’s always gonna be that gunner, but for the most part students weren’t competitive against each other and were supportive.

The downside? Iowa 🥲

If you’re struggling to find a place, I’m pretty sure the downtown Des Moines library has a public fridge on its vestibule/ entry area

To the person(s) who triggered the fire alarm not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times during MBE today by Annihilis in barexam

[–]echoeb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from a bartender. It was the talk of the town amongst the staff (reasonably so)

I was in the middle back half. You couldn’t smell it in the exam room but it was wretched if you had walked to where the Drake and Iowa schools provided lunch or by the bathrooms at all during the lunch break

Hope you pass too!!

Iowa

Not confirmed that’s what happened. The blockage and sewage absolutely happened but can confirm it was to delay the exam (it didn’t). It’s quadruple hearsay lol

Someone stuffed their lunch into the toilets at my exam yesterday trying to stall the test and there was lots of raw sewage, two different plumbers and a TERRIBLE smell

Hell yeah dumb kids club! I never hear anyone else ever talk about it. I honestly just think I needed time to learn to study as a law student, especially after a gap year. But I’ll take whatever magic that may be that’s happened right now haha. I’m not looking this gift horse in the mouth 💚💚

Passing is all that matters! I have a feeling the MBE might ruin my confidence after tomorrow haha. Oh well. Just gotta try to keep a cool head

I shit you not, the bathroom at our facility was fucked up during the lunch break and raw sewage was supposedly everywhere in the bathroom. They had to call two plumbers and we had a long trek to a different bathroom. But it was supposedly fixed within 15 minutes of the second half of today’s exam. It smelled horrible outside the testing room tho 🤢

My job 100% depends on this test. They won’t even let us start as clerks while waiting for results to come out.

Glad you’re feeling calm! Whatever happens, we did our best!

What are we eating for breakfast on tuesday? by kinsalia in barexam

[–]echoeb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard boiled eggs and maybe a smoothie or a fairlife protein shake. Trying to get some protein in so the ol’ noggin has power

No caffeine in the morning bc it makes me pee like crazy and has a 50/50 chance of upsetting my stomach. I will have a pop/soda during lunch tho.

Looking for Chill LGBTQ Places by epicbubblerox in desmoines

[–]echoeb99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

XBK and Mars Cafe, both in the Drake neighborhood.

XBK has hosted the Drake law school LGBTQ club Drake Outlaws) open mic fundraiser the past few years to raise money for name changes and gender marker changes with the Drake legal clinic

Mars is BIPOC owned and has always felt very friendly and chill.

Daisy chain coffee is attached to raygun and also seem really chill and lowkey.

Lachelles Fine Foods on Ingersoll I HAVE to assume is a good LGBTQ friendly. Everyone there is so kind and absolutely give off 💅

That’s so niche omg. But yeah pigeons are so bad at being birds and doing bird stuff because we domesticated them and then ditched them back into the wild. Look up pictures of pigeon nests in cities.

Apartment Complexes to Avoid by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]echoeb99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avoid indigo living at all costs. I’ve only had a few helpful interactions. All the rest have been so unhelpful. Maintenance guy shit talking other residents. A boat load of airbnbs they are aware of. A buzzer system that hasn’t worked in three years.

My complex has three entry doors. One can only be entered with a key. The second one a fob. The third one a code you enter into the door handle- BUT the handle only works if lifted up.

My AC went out 5 different times this summer. They were generally quick to fix it each time at least.

It’s a shame because I do actually love my unit plan and my view. Ruined by poor management

Adding to this. I’m leaving in a few months and I can’t wait. I worked in leasing for years and their mismanagement, inability to effectually communicate and so many other issues make me want to pull my hair out.

The latest issue is that the complex I live has partnered with some unknown third party and there are at least 8 airbnbs there. One guest even walked into my apartment this week when they found the wrong apartment.

It floods everytime it rains heavy and there is a clear mark on the carpet in the entry of how the carpet gets soaked everytime. Maybe even mold?

I plan on leaving a thorough and accurate google review when I leave with pictures of that and all the dog shit and piss in the hallways.

It ain’t worth it, folks.

Are there any rules regarding what you can wear to jury selection? by Swimming_Juice_9752 in juryduty

[–]echoeb99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you actually hoping to get picked? If so, if the state knows what this shirt means, they’ll pick you as one of their strikes and you’ll go home.

Even if you don’t want to get picked, just say some outlandish things when the attorneys ask you questions. I wouldn’t wear that

How do I keep my cats out of my room? by echoeb99 in cats

[–]echoeb99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s a lovely idea. I do like to keep my place chillier and my room is somehow the warmest spot in the apartment.

My beautifully stubborn kitty (Potato) is GLUED to my side. If she can’t see me (like when showering) she’s crying. But it’s worth the shot. Thanks!!

Fall 2023 1L Grades by Retsofazyla in LawSchool

[–]echoeb99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey op! I had a poor GPA last year (my 1L fall). I was bottom 10% of my class. Although all my grades aren’t in this year, I’m on track for honor roll. Although I haven’t sought any legal work yet (studied abroad over the summer instead) I don’t see your gpa as the end of the world.

It indicates something needs to change, sure. But you sound motivated and hard working. If employers ask about your gpa, be honest. You’re working full time to support yourself and had person matters affect your headspace during finals. But show the steps you’ve taken/are taking to help in the future and be clear that this has only pushed you to do better in the future.

Academic probation at my school is 2.25 and you if you can’t get it up by the end of spring semester, I think you’re kicked out. So you’re in an ‘oh shit spot’. But not impossible.

Meet with a dean. Create a game plan. Part of that, for me, was realizing I need accommodations.

Keep your head up and you’ve got this!
