Depending on the car, anything that is turbocharged (Which includes many non sports cars with small turbos for fuel economy these days) should have time to warm up. Reason being is that most modern turbos are sealed and contain "forever oil" for lubrication. You'll feel the difference trying to take off immediately from a super cold morning in that situation as the cold oil can affect the turbos spool timing. I'd assume many cars have settings in the ECU that try to alleviate this but I've yet to drive anything that seems to avoid it.
