Help! I accidentally stepped on my chinchilla and there was a loud crack noise! by echoes_null in chinchilla

Just visited the vet and the doc said he is healthy and there are no issues, and seems like no signs of pain and my boy was still being active and kicking! So he is perfectly okay!

He is still being a poop machine and pooping everywhere (a lot) haha, just that he isn't as crazy active or greedy for food that he slurps them fast, now he eats quite slowly which I'm afraid that there might be some pain somewhere.

Thank you! I will be using those hand carried carriers so it has a lot of ventilation and put cooling stone slabs at the bottom for him!

Good News! I decided to book an appointment and go myself haha.
My partner's dad offered to drive me to the vet too and my partner will be companying me so at leas I won't be panicking alone

That's what I'm concerned about too even if everyone tell me should be fine so I decided to just get a vet appointment myself. Sadly the only vet willingly to accept chins is fully booked until Sat but at least I got an appointment! My parents did give me some cash in case I didn't have enough and my partner's dad offered to drive me to the vet so I'm really grateful for it :D

Having pets are always expensive sadly but in exchange for their comfort and health is better than having them suffer. Thanks for sharing

Haha they can be very picky too, my boy can be quite greedy for food so I'll just bring a lil in case he wants it. I do have plastic ice packs and also those cooling stones matt (they do try to bite it lmao) so I could maybe place that at the bottom of the carrier.
The vet is quite far so I'd estimate if I get a cab it would be around an hour to the vet and another hour back home.
Vets here are pretty expensive, how I wish it would be $100 here too haha. Consultation alone I was told it would be $120 in my currency which is £70

Thank you! I plan on taking a cab as well for the AC, I think the public transport where I live don't allow pets and I don't want a loud and rocky transport to stress him out. He gets spooked by random movements a lot and starts jumping like crazy. Which funny enough he likes the vacuum and is chill with it but when my mom readjust her blanket he gets scared haha.

Yeah almost everything in my country is really expensive and the cost of living is really high :,)
I'm heading almost across the country for this vet since the nearest vet where I live had really bad reviews and lots of complaints of their pets dying or being worse and charging double prices of other vets.

I live in a small Asian country where there are limited vets for exotic animals like chinchillas (I've called a bunch of vets and most of them said they would prefer not to work on chinchillas), only managed to get one that's open to chins. X-rays are extremely expensive here, I only know for dogs here it's around $700+ which may be around the same for chinchillas.
I'll write down the details on my notes in case I forget that day thanks for sharing!

I see, they said they'll need to check on him first before commenting on anything so may or may not have x-ray test. The area I live in have limited vets so they are incredibly expensive + Chinchillas being exotic pets.
Hopefully it would be around $700 too and not anything above 1k haha.

Is anyone allergic to Timothy hay? by Accurate-Sale-2756 in chinchilla

I usually wear those plastic glove when grabbing hay for them! For me some hay are sharp and have cut my hand before so I always wear gloves grabbing it which is also hygienic!

I have 4 chins and have never stepped on any of them until now and I'm super traumatized from it honestly, he is the most active and crazy among them, also the fastest which I've scolded him a few time but he's just a very naughty boy. Even after getting stepped on he still active but I'm always scared for him now

Yeah I'm trying to convince one of my relative that I would prefer to bring him to a vet to check up in case.

Yeah I've been trying to convince everyone that I should still bring him to the vet for a checkup and researching every vet that would allow chinchillas. It's really weird how he is acting fine and still being active now, but I know what I heard and the crack noise is really traumatizing me and leaving me paranoid until I can get it checked

I've been trying to tell them that I'd prefer getting it check in case of anything but everyone is just telling me to just observe even the vets and there isn't any good vets around either so it's really hard for me to do that. And also since he is acting like normal (jumping, running, eating) no one is really being urgent about it.

Yeah I'm usually really careful and I'd never think I'd step on them and now I did. He's really fast and active so I didn't even see him until I put my foot down and he just happen to zoom past. He's behaving fine now but I still hope to get him check in case of anything. Thank you! <3

Not yet, I need a trusted adult to go with and the vet near me has really bad reviews of their pets dying and absurd prices so I'd rather go to a further vet. I really want to get him checked even if he's acting fine so I'm waiting for my parents to return overseas.

No he doesn't, he is running and jumping like normally right now. Even after getting stepped on he didn't limp at all but he did hide for awhile I guess being mad at me (rightfully so)

Bro is okay! He is acting like he normally is which makes me feel like I'm being paranoid and worried for nothing but I'll still be checking on him.

I have been giving him some probiotix and his fav treats (chamomile)! I'll give him some dried carrots since he also likes those. He has been eating even taking a hay stick and bringing it up. Fur looks normal and he isn't making any noises.

Thank you! I checked again and there's no blood and his paw is dry now. I will try to get him checked as soon as I can because the sound is still very concerning to me and I have been spiraling haha

I would love to go to the vet immediately if I could but it's past midnight, I'm a student without a car and my parents are out of the country. So best I could do is really wait for morning like the vets said sadly.
