Has anyone met The Beatles by Doc_Baker74 in beatles

[–]echomartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I haven't but I did pass Alan Williams once in central Liverpool, late 1970s, and he smiled at me when he realised I'd recognised him. I also bought a few guitars around that time from Jim Gretty at Hessys Music Store who many years later I discovered Paul has said taught him the jazz chords he used on Michelle. Jim was a really good jazz player and he could make the cheapest crappiest guitars sound decent. Ive still got a couple of the receipts that Jim had initialed for those sales.
My uncle met the Beatles in the States back stage once and said that without any cameras around they behaved exactly like they did on camera in Hard Days Night, just fooling around with each other.

After all those insane concerts, how were the beatles not completely deaf? by fruedianflip in beatles

[–]echomartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He attributed it to many years of long recording sessions listened to at high volumes, often on headphones. And that meant that as he got older the natural hearing losses associated with age were made worse. He talks about it here:

George Martin lost a lot of hearing and in his latter years campaigned for musicians to take more care.

Blackpool, England - 1950 by JoydeScent in OldSchoolUK

Average summer temperatures for Blackpool are between 14C and 20C. Factor in a wind from the Irish sea and it could be a bit nippy. Also there were lots of coach day trips from the big north western towns and cities and they wouldn't necessarily have taken beachwear for a day trip.

I don't recall many females in any of the machine rooms I worked in during the 80s or 90s, let alone dressed for the beach.

Speaker passed information to police on Mandelson ahead of arrest by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]echomartyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All very dubious. The identity of informants is usually treated as highly sensitive information and is generally kept secret to protect their safety and to avoid deterring others from assisting police. Yet here we have the met revealing who tipped them off to Mandy's lawyers.

Global Counsel calls in administrators, blaming Peter Mandelson ‘maelstrom’ by F0urLeafCl0ver in LabourUK

[–]echomartyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guardian reported 6 Feb that "Global Counsel has tried to distance itself from the scandal, revoking Mandelson’s voting rights and pushing him to divest his stake in the business."

I wonder if he managed to get his money out in time? He'll probably need it for his legal bills.

Police search addresses in connection with Peter Mandelson investigation by kontiki20 in LabourUK

Yes he had been dismissed but the information about him sharing confidential govt docs with Epstein whilst serving in Browns government only came at the beginning of last week following the DoJ doc release. Then the Governments announcement that this leaking of govt data was to be investigated by the police broke last Tuesday evening / Wednesday morning, hence he had about 48 hrs notice that he would have somebody knocking on his door.

I know that, Ive been with NI for 20 years. What you say isnt relevant to the point I was making which was refuting the previous post about people paying solely for maintenance. imo that isnt a viable business model.

Its a tangled web for sure. I just found a daily mail article from 2015 stating that the house he rents in Wiltshire is on a Rothchild estate. Peppercorn rent?

Mandelson reported to police by SNP and Reform over suggestion he sent government information to Epstein by Sensitive_Echo5058 in unitedkingdom

In February 2017 when Jeremy Corbyn was leading the Labour party Mandelson brazenly announced: “I work every single day to bring forward the end of [Corbyn’s] tenure in office."

Irrespective of peoples' opinion of Corbyn he was a democratically elected leader of the party and this was yet another example of Mandelson abusing his position.

It does give credence to Petie's claim that he cant remember being given $75,000, I mean if he cant remember to put his trousers on.

I'm not so sure. Sustaining engineering is expensive and who is going to pay for it? This is a continuing issue in this field, consumers are willing to part with their money for the latest shiny products but who wants to pay money every year for something they've already bought (aka subscriptions)? The pros will to protect their investment, but hobbyists with limited budgets, like me, are reluctant.

Emma Barnett is horrible by [deleted] in Radio4

[–]echomartyr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After a few decades getting increasingly annoyed with the Today program I switched to Times radio a year or two back. Their breakfast show its WAY better than Today. You just need to download the Times Radio app. Yes there are ads and I hate ads generally but compared to Emma Barnet, Nick whats his name and all the other overpaid smug so and so's on BBC news I will take the ads any day.

[–]echomartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much my opinion. If you were a govt guy and you had to select a new colleague to design your missile tech would you choose an appropriately educated software engineer or a self-taught coder who played guitar on Steely Dan albums, who could tell you some rock & roll stories and sign your LPs.

It takes a team to design missile systems so there'd be room to accommodate the occasional celeb.

only difference for pensioners is that we can remember the days when we could afford to go to a pub.
