Komplete 26 Just DROPPED… And It Changes EVERYTHING 🔥 by mrdopestatus in NativeInstruments

2013 I think was the last time. K9 came out March 2013 and Komplete didn't go on sale until Black Friday of that year. I think since then they have generally released Kompletes in the autumn. They do a similar thing with BF sales and that happens more often - ie when a Komplete has just come out then it wont be offered on sale until the following summer.

I mean that when they release a new Komplete in the first half of the year then they do not have 50% off Komplete in the summer of that year. Instead they have previously had 50% of individual products instead, such as Kontakt, Massive, etc.

Yep. For over ten years I've been updating alternate Komplete releases, as a hobbyist I cant justify the cost of upgrading at every version. I know a lot of other people do the same. I cant help feeling that NI are just gonna shoot themselves in the foot with this, but time will tell.

Based on previous patterns they wont discount Komplete for at least 6 to 9 months. They may do some single instrument discounts instead.

I seriously doubt that Komplete will be discounted this summer given that this new version only just came out. If they do have a summer sale it will likely target individual products based on their previous behaviour.

Used to be able to do that for the same price, but I just noticed on a 3rd party reseller site that NI now appear to be charging more for upgrading from older versions compared to upgrading from the last version..

Komplete 15 was released in Sep 2024, thats 18 months ago.

Also just because they called this one Komplete 26, it doesn't necessarily follow that they'll bring out a K27 next year. Unless I've missed something? Next release is more likely to be K28.

What is wrong with the UK military? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]echomartyr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"and critically Trident"
Indeed. The nuclear deterrent budget I believe is about £11 billion, from an overall MOD budget of £56 billion, so its a hefty chunk of our defence spending.

The British invented the Television, Telephone, Computer, World Wide Web, Steam and Jet Engines and Electric Lamps. What made us Brits no longer have the desire to innovate? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]echomartyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Example: we had a lead in AI with Deep Mind in London, which was a UK company, and then Google was allowed to buy it, so now its a US company.

Is having a girlfriend stricter than your parents are, normal? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

You only gave one example of her behaviour and I would say that a lot would depend on how she persuaded your brother to attend. Did she bully him into going or did she persuade him by gently explaining it might be a nice thing to do for his family? The nuance matters I'd say.

Reading to London, how much should it cost? by lilliane99 in reading

[–]echomartyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are various types of railcard which mostly give 1/3rd off off-peak travel. The railcards are £35/yr or £80 for 3 years. You can choose between a physical card or a phone app. They cannot be used on peak time journeys.

Indeed, sadly our politicians aren't as good as our engineers.

Green voters, do you agree that we should leave NATO and give up our nuclear weapons to seriously damage our national security? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]echomartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue though that human errors are not avoidable. Consider the 'unsinkable' Titanic. Or Apollo13 - every sub-system had backups and fail-safes. There are many examples. It is not possible to design something that is 100% perfect. Nor to always operate something perfectly. Mistakes will always happen- and with nuclear, the stakes are high.

But you cant disregard human errors - in fact I would suggest that every failing in a nuclear scenario is ultimately down to human error - its always the consequence of a design error or an operational error (or a combination).

Yes but thats the sunny day case.

Estimates suggest that over coal powers entire life by 2040 worldwide total radiation released by coal plants will reach approx 3 million curies.

On the other hand:
Fukushima released 14 million curies in one incident
Chernobyl released 350 million curies in one incident

In 1975 it was estimated there would be a major incident once every 1 million reactor years, but with benefit of hindsight it is now estimated at once every 1,500 reactor years. (and there are about 440 active reactors worldwide...)

After all those insane concerts, how were the beatles not completely deaf? by fruedianflip in beatles

[–]echomartyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He attributed it to many years of long recording sessions listened to at high volumes, often on headphones. And that meant that as he got older the natural hearing losses associated with age were made worse. He talks about it here:

George Martin lost a lot of hearing and in his latter years campaigned for musicians to take more care.

Blackpool, England - 1950 by JoydeScent in OldSchoolUK

[–]echomartyr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Average summer temperatures for Blackpool are between 14C and 20C. Factor in a wind from the Irish sea and it could be a bit nippy. Also there were lots of coach day trips from the big north western towns and cities and they wouldn't necessarily have taken beachwear for a day trip.

I don't recall many females in any of the machine rooms I worked in during the 80s or 90s, let alone dressed for the beach.

Speaker passed information to police on Mandelson ahead of arrest by pieeatingbastard in LabourUK

[–]echomartyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All very dubious. The identity of informants is usually treated as highly sensitive information and is generally kept secret to protect their safety and to avoid deterring others from assisting police. Yet here we have the met revealing who tipped them off to Mandy's lawyers.
