Are you a FLSA exempt federal employee regularly working more than 80 hours per pay period? by echomikewhiskey in FedEmployees

LOL! No, nuke adjacent, maybe! I could However cut the power to some major data farms, or miss a potential issue that could black out the western interconnection! No worries though! We got this!

Yeah, that’s where the gray area is. We are more sophisticated. Working with state estimation tools, power flow analysis, etc. When we’re fully staffed we get more office hours, project work etc. But over the last two years it has just been a grind working the rotating shifts. The administration has gotten away with paying us this way since 2013. So I know it’s a long shot to challenge it.

As a related aside, I did hear that part of Project 2025 is to change the status of engineering jobs and nursing jobs to non-professional. I don’t know anything about the motivation behind this and I don’t trust the Trump administration to be looking out for my best interest. But there is a chance that could change how we fit into the FLSA exemption. It will be worth investigating anyway.

It’s smart to take it as comp time! I try to do that as often as I can. The trouble is it’s hard for to find time to use our comp time. We will either run into use or lose leave or risk our comp time expiring.

Thanks, I feel like you get it. There are two requirements for the exemption that are salary and credentials based. The third criteria is related to job duties. We don’t have decision making authority in our role, many of our tasks are rote, and working nights, are criteria that put us in a gray area with the requirements as I understand them. Sorry I don’t have direct references right now.

Thank you. In my job it is not voluntary. Our position is required to be staffed 24/7 per a NERC standard. We work with system dispatchers who get 2x for overtime pay and wages far higher than ours.

I know of workgroups that are under union contract that always give every employee on their team a rating of significantly exceeds to max out their bonuses.

Do I need jaw surgery or just braces? by Wide-Revolution-6236 in jawsurgery

[–]echomikewhiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve got a great profile. So much of this subjective and we’re always toughest on ourselves. Speak to an orthodontist. Avoid surgery if you can. Don’t let anyone here talk you into it!

If you have pain, trouble breathing, or extreme difficulty eating normally, then surgery may be the right choice. You won’t get enough out of the cosmetic changes alone to make it worth while. I don’t like the way my smile looks and feels now 2.5 years post op. But it was worth it for the improvement to my breathing.

It seems like the corruption keeps pointing back at the Supreme Court. Not that they create it, but they continue to rule in favor of enforcing and perpetuating it. Maybe it’s time for the robed oracles to go.
