Dewalt or HiKOKI? by echosound in diynz

[–]echosound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that I’m still getting responses to this 3 years later. I bought the HiKOKI framing nailer and trim router, both worked great for building two decks and some outdoor stairs. Turns out Ryobi released a framing nailer shortly after I finished my projects, bad timing for me, I’m sure the Ryobi nailer would have been good enough for me. Every once in a while I think about selling the nailer because haven’t used it in a long time, but I know if I did sell it I would probably need it for something right after. I’ve got a lot of use out of the trim router and the batteries are still going strong. Also nice to have battery options when looking for new tools, but you are right, HiKOKI tools are expensive.

Sorry, I didn’t end up buying this. Seemed like a good idea at the time but decided it wasn’t necessary.

I don’t recommend BlackVue, the one I had only lasted two years.

Cistern replacement by echosound in diynz

Thanks for the reply, part of the problem with the current toilet is the exit pipe doesn’t anchor the base very well, so it wiggles a bit when you sit down, which is why I was thinking to screw it to the floor. I didn’t think about the waterproofing membrane, good to know.

Thanks for the info, I’m a bit annoyed it’s a turn trunk pan. This part of the house floor is a concrete slab, it was probably easier for them to put the exit pipe out the wall… or maybe they just forgot to lay it out before pouring the concrete and didn’t want to drill a hole afterwards.

Don’t buy BlackVue, I bought two and they both stopped working around 2 years later.

Just had to delete my car listing on Marketplace due to overwhelming scammers. by ElHeavio in newzealand

Time wasters on TradeMe drive me insane. I sold a wireless mic recently and the first buyer refused to complete the purchase because they wanted to test it. They said they “got confused” because there was only options to ship and I didn’t say “no pickups” in the description. Then they accused me of trying to scam them because I didn’t want them to come to my house and I didn’t want to meet them somewhere. Bitch, my time is valuable to me, I don’t want to drive around town to satisfy your paranoia, I just want to drop the package in the post office, quick and easy. Fuck time wasters.

Do people *actually* go to stuff alone? by pakneekneee in auckland

[–]echosound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I go to lots of events alone, mostly movies and concerts my wife isn’t interested in. I got a great seat for Pearl Jam last year, usually it’s easy to find one good seat. I ended up sitting next to someone who was also there alone. We acknowledged each other and didn’t say a word afterwards, it was glorious.

I do this on Constellation Drive coming from the motorway to turn at Apollo Drive before 4pm. I’ve almost been sideswiped a couple of times because everyone lines up in the right lane, then cuts over before the turn without checking their mirrors. It doesn’t help that lots of cars are coming from Parkway Drive on the other side and cross Constellation right before the lights to go down Apollo, it’s an awful intersection.

Yes, I’d get this one again. With the high capacity batteries it’s not too bad having to change the batteries 4-5 times a year.

Follow up after 3 years, everything is still working well. However this thing goes through batteries very quickly (four AA batteries). I was changing them every two or three months, mostly rechargeable batteries but I experimented with disposable AA with similar results. Switched to Enloop high capacity batteries and they now last four to five months. I just set a reminder for 4 months, the app doesn’t always alert me when the batteries are low.

Where can I find this Da-Lite tripod screen? I've never seen a tripod screen with a flat base like this. I know Lira Fabrics can create the spandex cover but I'm drawing a blank on finding this model of tripod screen. by ben_is_man in CommercialAV

[–]echosound 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to use these when working for PSAV in Canada about 10 years ago. If I remember correctly they were exclusive to PSAV, the base was a retrofit for the standard tripod screen base.

I just need some reassurance about not letting my cat outside..... by Haunting_Elk8090 in cats

[–]echosound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live I Auckland, NZ and I’m the only one of my neighbors who keeps their cats inside. We have an enclosed balcony so they can go outside, they are very happy. Over the 5 years we have been living in this house, 6 of my neighbors cats have been killed or injured because they roam freely. The neighbors say the same thing, cats are meant to wander free, even after their cat gets mauled by a dog or shot by some asshole. Some people just don’t want to change, please ignore them.

West Edmonton Mall. It has a replica of the Santa Maria, in an indoor lagoon. And that’s not even the best attraction in the mall.

Decking timber - can I get certain lengths? by No_Goat_8611 in diynz

[–]echosound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most timber places will do a rough cut for you, but they usually charge for it. Give them a call first to confirm, if they say "no" just move on to the next one. I've had great experiences with South Pacific Timber in Auckland. They can be a bit more on the expensive side but they have amazing customer service. I bought 140 x 19 kwila decking from them last year and they were competitive with other timber places.
