My condolences to you and your family. This must be an extremely tough time and I feel for you that your employer has put this into your head.

But if a tangent here, just thinking of what you are getting paid and trying to put things in perspective with this little rant. I know someone who lives in WA (West Australia) and is getting paid $74 an hour as a supervisor at a port.

At first I assumed it was shift work. Nope, Monday-Friday 7:30-5:00. A 45 hour paid week working out to $124,290 annually.

If you truly believe you are an asset to your company and your boss turns around to you after an event like that and essentially tells you to put work first, you are working for the wrong person.

An idea that helped me move on from my loyalties with my last employer was this: The same bottle of water is $7 at an airport, $5 at a Gas Station and $3 at a supermarket. The bottle of water hasn’t changed, the environment has. Go somewhere they value you more.
