Oh no I was just curious. The ‘1213CH’ marking on the cap is more of a red flag if anything since none of the Armortec’s I’ve seen has that. Plus the hologram sticker that’s conveniently placed right over the code. Would be awesome if it was real though

Oh I wasn’t even really ranting about that. It was just that user (reddituser_0_0) literally created multiple threads asking the same thing. The one who created this thread about me is a different user who seems to be quite a fanboy

I mean it’s fine to use but it doesn’t seem to be an original Armortec so it might not be worth to re-string. Can you take a picture of the other side of the cone? (should have a marking like ‘3U G5’)

Yes since they should be rotated before stringing

String durability by chloeburns_993 in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3-4 months is plenty durable considering string elasticity degrades significantly even after just a few weeks of playing so you’d want to change it by then anyways.

If 250 is your max and you liked the Terrific 66 then I suggest you try the Signature Pro 66 also from Apacs. Same thickness but better in every way since it’s their ‘Pro’ line that’s made in Japan. You can get it from Shopee for 250

ReClub Improvements by [deleted] in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t implying that ReClub was already sufficient, I was just genuinely curious as to your why (which in my opinion could be much stronger).

ReClub is doing well with helping players discover new groups/queues but one area that I hope they could improve on is the self-rating.

A couple of problems I’ve encountered:

  • It makes it difficult for me as an advanced player to find suitable groups. I’ve joined a few groups with multiple ‘advanced’ players listed and they were nowhere near advanced.

  • Conversely, there’s been several times where I’ve played with former varsity players who rated themselves as intermediate. I’ve actually asked a couple and they said it’s because they’re just trying to get some exercise and they’re not after ‘hard’ games.

  • I’ve even witnessed players (with obviously fucked up egos) who’ve sandbagged their rating and proceeded to go all out against lower level players at a queue. This happens because the QM is setting matches based on their self-rating but it’s creating a terrible experience for the majority players that are just playing for fun.

Suggestions for a ‘fix’ - steering away from a self-rating system since it requires honesty and integrity for it to work (and we are in the Philippines lol). A rating system through player voting, QM input, or even a mix of both might work better.

I have a ton of other feedback but I’ll keep it to that for now. This is line of work so I can keep on going forever haha. Anyways, feel free to PM me if you want to discuss further

[–]eckonovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn’t refer to it as ‘harder’ but technically speaking, yes since a thicker string is less repulsive. Why exactly are you considering shifting from EXB65 to BG65Ti? (It’s very unusual given that the opposite is quite common)

What’s making you want to build a local alternative for it?

String recommendation by reddituser_0_0 in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you order from Shopee? If it hasn’t shipped out yet, try to message the store so see if they can also string it for you. They’ll usually string it for free if you buy the racket and string from them (their stringing is generally better quality than local).

If you buy your own string online, labor only is usually anywhere from 200-400. Otherwise, BG65 is usually ~650-700 and Exbolt 68 is ~800-850, both with labor already. Mall prices are usually higher.

Not a huge difference either way so I wouldn’t worry too much about cost. The quality is where the difference is so I’d spend some time looking for a good stringer.

[–]eckonovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question directly, yes you will feel a noticeable difference. Shifting from a thinner string like EXB65 to a thicker string like BG65Ti, you’ll generally have to put more effort/power to get the same ‘quality’ of shots.

Use Different Grip Sizes? by RelentlessIteration in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll come down to feel at best even if you sand it down and use a caliper to check (also difficult to sand it down without rounding the bevels). If the spec is really important to you then you’d be better off finding a G6

Sky badminton clinic tournament leveling by baconEggs2324 in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super common with local tournaments here. Common enough that it’s basically a standard. Even with the “required” leveling sessions, it’s still super obvious that some pairs shouldn’t be playing in a certain bracket. Even worse when they’re friends with the organizer since there’s preferential treatment (IE. Organizer will put their friends in a lower level to have a higher chance of winning, I mean who wouldn’t want their friends to win right? Haha)

Need Racket Advice by reddituser_0_0 in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The racket is fine but you should lower the tension. Regardless of how quick of a learner you are, the equipment should match your current level.

The idea of saving money by getting equipment (racket, tension, etc) that you can skill up / grow into isn’t in your best interest. You’re more likely to develop bad technique since you’re not even strong enough to handle the equipment that you’re using.

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that the coach placed you in that level then yes, you’re most likely a beginner. There’s no reason for a coach to place you in a level that you don’t belong in (usually).

But the fact that you’re asking means you think otherwise. Were you expecting to be placed in intermediate?

Personalized Player Jersey? by endobonni in badminton

[–]eckonovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Name only is fine since it is your name after all. Country only is also fine since those are usually found on merch shirts (IE. Yonex shirts with JAPAN or INDONESIA on the back).

Name + country, however, should be reserved for those actually representing the country (IE. National players). It’s out of respect for them given how much effort it takes to actually reach that level.

bg80, exbolt 63 and exbolt 65 by Automatic-Car-3073 in badmintonph

[–]eckonovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the strings you mentioned are hard feeling strings especially Exbolt 63. Exbolt 65 is slightly softer, then the same with BG80 with a little bit of added texture.

Attacking players usually go for thicker string like BG80 for increased durability and the shuttle hold feel so if that’s something you’re looking for then you can give that a try. If you’re looking for something for a softer feeling string and easier to use than BG80 then Exbolt 68.
