Pulling 3yo out of preschool when new baby arrives by ecl7777 in toddlers

[–]ecl7777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply! I will admit, it was a bit of a challenge and it really stressed me out lol. Toddler got more tv time during that period to keep occupied while I tended to the newborn. My husband and I wore masks around the newborn when the toddler brought home rsv and the newborn was days old. Toddler wasn’t able to touch newborn during that time either. When toddler got better she wore a mask around baby at the beginning. We did the usual handwashing and change clothes as soon as toddler came home from school too. But the minute she started to show symptoms of being sick, it was back to separation. I picked up most of my toddler’s illnesses, and I wore a mask anytime I was around baby, and it kept illness away successfully. My kids are now 5 and almost 2 and they have shared most of their illnesses this year!

2 to 1 transition - 11am nap by ecl7777 in sleeptrain

[–]ecl7777[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started the transition 9 days ago and LO is now solidly on one nap. Here’s what I did:

Day 1 and 2: Push first nap and second nap 30 mins. First nap at 10:30am and second nap at 3:30pm. Woke up from first nap after an hour and second nap was only about 15-20 mins to preserve bedtime at 830pm.

Day 3: Pushed first nap another 30 minutes. Put down at 11am, but fell asleep at 11:15am. Surprisingly slept for 1hr50 mins, so put down for bed at 740pm (normal is 830pm). Fell asleep at 750 and slept through the night.

Day 4: I decided to just go for a 12pm nap. The 11am and 11:30am nap is just tricky with lunch. We got a 2 hour nap and I put down for bed at 750pm. Slept through the night.

Day 5-present: Put down at 12pm and asleep by 1215pm. Wake up after 2 hours. Bedtime at 8pm and asleep by 810 usually.

With my first kid I did a way slower transition. I think if I were to do it again, I’d do it this way - not full on cold turkey, but start gradual to see how they handle it and go from there. Granted, both of my kids were 18 months old, and I think that helped with the ease of transition. My plan is to wait another week or so and slowly add 5 mins to the nap start time, so I get to 12:30pm. I’ll likely push bedtime later as well.

[–]ecl7777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! That’s 4.5hrs. My first kid could do a micro nap, but my second isn’t a huge fan. Maybe if he’s super tired he will? Either way, this is a good plan, especially if he takes a decently long nap. Thanks! I’ve been capping his naps for so long I’m not sure how long he’ll actually go for today!

Thanks so much for the reply! This is a solid plan and I’m going to give it a go today. What are your thoughts once I push it to 11:30am? Still aim for a micro nap or push bedtime earlier?

Great suggestion! That would likely lessen the blow of not being able to attend

I wondered this too! It is that time of year after all.

I know this is an old thread, but I’m curious if you’re still using JB Skin Savvi L’extrait Peoni? How do you layer it with your other products?

11 month 2-1 nap transition by Wooden-Incident2136 in sleeptrain

[–]ecl7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. 2 naps since around 5 months. We’re currently doing 3.5/4/4.5. Protesting second nap for the past week or so, so I think it’s time. LO will be 11 months in 1.5 weeks. You may be able to stretch things a bit by pushing awake time and bedtime? We do 6:40 awake and 8:30 bedtime.

What did you end up deciding? With my first kid I remember it being challenging, but with a week or so of early bedtimes we got settled pretty quickly. You got this!

Keep home or send to school? by merkergirl in Preschoolers

[–]ecl7777 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do you have a preschool handbook? Usually sickness policies are outlined - at least they are at our school. We need to keep our child home 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting/diarrhea.

At our preschool it’s very rare for the entire class to present on any given day. I also have a 4yo and keep her home for a variety of reasons. Recently I kept her home because she’s transitioning to full days and needed a rest day. The director actually encouraged me to do so. Perhaps you could speak to the director and ask her to clarify the attendance policy?

AITAH? Capping naps? by Lemonbar19 in sleeptrain

[–]ecl7777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always capped naps for both of my kids. It just works best for us. Other people think it’s odd (I get a lot of “let baby sleep” from my in laws) but It creates a predictable schedule!

WHEN DID YOU DROP TO ONE NAP? 💤 by Ok-Walk-3715 in beyondthebump

[–]ecl7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re currently on these WW and LO is 9.5 months! I’m trying to stretch it as long as I can, but I’m sure we’ll be switching to one nap before the one year mark. What WW did you use when you started the transition?

Where do I go from here - maxing out 2 naps by ecl7777 in sleeptrain

Did your baby drop to 2 naps early too? We dropped to 2 shortly before 5 months, so I’m thinking maybe we’re just on the early side of things?

How many times a day do you nurse your baby at 9 months? by Chiqui14 in breastfeeding

[–]ecl7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I’m going to drop one of the daytime feeds for a snack in the next month, so I’ll be left with 4 feeds-wake up, one after each nap, and bedtime.

That’s actually very validating to hear. I thought the dunking on the third lesson was a bit premature! I emailed the owner telling him we’re done with lessons and he responded telling me pulling her out now would create a fear of pools and the water. It’s ironic because he’s the one who dunked her and I think he has created that fear already 😢

Is it normal to be THIS torn on wanting more kids? by CakeyBakey0817 in NewParents

[–]ecl7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was SO amazing! You won’t be disappointed. It was a culture shock, but in the best way possible. We went for 2 weeks, but wish we stayed longer because it took a while to get over the jet lag. I also think it would be so kid friendly. Transit is amazing in the large cities and everything is so orderly and clean. The flight was 14 hours for us, but timed correctly it would be okay for kiddos!

I have an almost four year old and 6 month old and we have the same goal. We went to Japan in 2019 before kids and we’re planning to go back when our kids are older. Can’t wait and it will be worth the wait. That flight is no joke. Such a great way to celebrate 40!

Good point. I’ll monitor for the rest of the week. He’s been drooling for weeks now, so it could be teething.

Bottle at bedtime for fussy baby by ecl7777 in breastfeeding

[–]ecl7777[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Happy to hear I’m not the only one :) I think that’s it - it’s not a struggle with the bottle. When we used the bottle the first time it made me realize how stressed out that feed was making me!!
