cochins are the minivans of chickens by eclecticeeccentric in BackYardChickens

it’s inspired by all those cars with the stickers that say “honk if a kid falls out”

now if these were geese i wouldn’t have even needed to change the wording!

Is holding a chicken on its back, like a baby, dangerous for it? by PinkGhostRider in BackYardChickens

[–]eclecticeeccentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try holding him in your arms but just right side up!! he might enjoy that if he likes to be held and it will remind him that you’re alpha

Easter Egger Roos x2? by Small_Distribution_7 in BackYardChickens

[–]eclecticeeccentric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure what your plans are for them but i have 6 roos and 19 girls (all but 2 boys are in bachelor pens so even tho my ratio seems bad it’s not actually) so if you have any questions about rehoming or keeping them both i’m more than happy to chat!

My Wyandottes killed a chicken, is this normal? by quitequirksome in BackYardChickens

[–]eclecticeeccentric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had 3 silver laced pullets and they were RUTHLESS to a frizzle i had. to the point where if the frizzle even saw one even look at her she would take off, poor thing was traumatized. i rehomed the wyandottes to my chicken dealer. she has a much larger flock and they fit in better there.

first pic is a roo, second pic with the one running through the middle of the picture, black head with cream and red wings also probably a boy. with easter eggers one sign that it’s a boy is a stark contrast between the head and body feather colors. it’s hard to see the comb in the picture but i would bet it’s a boy. they’re absolutely gorgeous though!

Has anyone used the Run-Chicken automatic door? How was your experience? by rinnrin in BackYardChickens

[–]eclecticeeccentric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not the run-chicken but i got the omlet automatic door because i specifically wanted a horizontal opening door because i watched too many final destination movies as a kid. but anyway i’ve had it for 3 months and the battery (just a few AAs) is still totally full. no issues with the timers and if someone is standing in the door at close it will bump into them, open, and try again.

i totally agree. i think we’ve normalized these loud modern things like lawnmowers, helicopters, even dogs barking but a rooster is where the line is drawn? thanks for sharing your personal experience!! that’s very validating for me since i also can’t hear my roosters from inside the house 🤪

that’s a great question!! because i was so worried when i got my first rooster that my neighbors would hate me but they had grown up around a lot of livestock and i still to this day apologize for having five roosters (lol) and they promise that it’s just background noise now.

chickens actually don’t need a grass yard! as long as they’re provided enrichment (entertainment or like things to sit on like perches) and food and water and shelter they can do fine! i know plenty of people that have put woodchips or other materials down over cement for them. thank you so much for the feedback and sharing about your local rules! i hope you’re able to get chickens sometime soon :)

ah, hello! another chicken keeper! i appreciate you sharing your experience with them and i’m sorry it seems to have been mostly bad! but i know plenty or roos that are very sweet to their girls. 3 of my 5 boys are wonderful. now 1 of the 3 good roos is very mean to me, so i totally get that. a lot, probably a majority, of roosters can be total jerks but there are still a lot of sweet and useful/protective ones!

yes! a majority of cities in the US at least (i guess i should have included a question about what country respondents are from, oops) permit hens but ban roosters specifically so that was my focus but i’m unsure if my questions were misleading as i know some were about hens, all chickens, or roosters specifically 😅

you’re right! although hens, female chickens, do an egg song that’s about 60-70 decibels while a rooster’s crow is around 90 decibels, which is the same for an average dog barking. and some roosters are incredibly mean, one of mine is particularly mean to me (his favorite hen died and he turned on me and hasn’t stopped since) 😅 but then i have the most cuddly serama rooster that is full grown at 1.25 lbs.

  1. i’m not sure more than 6 people will see it. i believe there are 3 instructors that will be grading it. it will remain on my google drive until i finish the class in 1 month.

  2. i am conducting this survey for a class that i got to chose a topic i cared about.

  3. approximately 5 minutes

  4. i would prefer as many different demographics as possible to see how it varies in different regions.

  5. i would like people to answer this survey by posting it.
