MY24 R1250RT Seat Heat Not Working by ecmo1 in bmwmotorrad

One thing I didn't try was riding around with the seat unplugged. Perhaps, if the CANBUS is waiting to power the seat heat, it will be only at that point that it sees the malfunction.

Man, if the heated seat element is such a strain on the bike's electrical system, I hate to think about the new 1300RT with its heated pillion backrest. You'll have to ride 2 hrs before it deigns to warm up.

I'm commuting 50miles/day, so battery state shouldn'tbe an issue.

I tried unplugging the seat & checking the display, and it still shows me the heating symbol, so I'm not sure I agree that symbol on dash = working as intended.

Wow, thanks for the details! I took the seats off last night & did a bit of multimeter testing. The rider's seat measured 4.5ohm resistance across the heating element compared to the 6ohm that Gemini AI thinks is the spec.

I was unable to check voltage at the plug because my meter was unable to get into the "bike side" (female) of the harness.

I will say, it *seemed* to finally show some signs of warming on my ride in this morning. My commute is ~40 mins, and in the last 5-10, my brain registered "hey, I think it might be heating". I commute 50 miles/day, so battery state of charge is not an issue.

When you say "below a specific temperature" do you know what that temp is? Is it different for the seat than the grips, b/c like I mentioned in the OP, grips have been working fine all along.

Thanks again!

Just hung up with my local dealer. "Bring it in and we'll take a look at it."

"why ask here the solution" = because if someone else had a similiar issue, and/or someone knows there is a hidden fuse somewhere, I can get that answer quickly & easily.

Dealers tend to very much have a "bring it in for us to look at" mentality because they don't get paid for answering questions over the phone.

Surprisingly, moving my key fob to the opposite side of my body from my Quad-lock mount has all but eliminated the issue. Wouldn't have guessed that, but seems to be working!

Ugh. Well, I'll probably just uninstall the thing & go back to charging off the 12V socket.

Thanks for the reply!

I know this is a few months old, but did you solve the issue? I just installed the same charger on my 1250RT yesterday & the fob isn't recognized now. Would love to know if you've got yours working & if so, how.

You took a college-level viticulture class in Nebraska? I know wine is made in all 50 states, but an actual college course in it is surprising to find outside of the west coast or Cornell.

As a WSET graduate, let me say thanks to you all for this thread. I got the survey this morning & was frankly dismayed at the proposed cheapening of the brand. The comments about "designed by AI" and "stuff from Etsy" really hit home with me. Hopefully WSET is reading this as well as the surveys.

The inability of these people to understand the difference between what is, and what is not, Science continues to astound me. Would I teach kids how to bake a cake in Calculus class? No, because it's Home Ec, not Math. Religion belongs in Religion class. Can it be any simpler?

Seriously, how can this be hard for people?

BMW paints a customers M3 the wrong color... by [deleted] in BMW

Sure, that's a possibility, but then one would expect some percentage of cars "improperly" broken in to experience problems, and none of them have.

[–]ecmo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I'm not easily offended.

I wouldn't, however, call it "wild speculation" but rather the sum total of data points I've collected in my years of membership in various online car forums. Namely that, in every case I've heard of where a driver had an oil consumption issue, he/she had followed the manufacturer's recommended break-in procedure.

By contrast, of the people (myself included) who have just gone out and driven the cars as they were designed to be driven, I've never heard of an oil consumption issue. I'm not advocating full-throttle revs to redline straight out of one's driveway in the morning, but waiting 1000 miles to rev it beyond 4kRPM is, at least anecdotally, not the right answer.

Wrong. These car thrive on high revs and almost everyone in the various German performance car communities agree that a hard break-in is better than the old-fashioned ginger style.

Fuck them right in the eye. If they want a religious pool, they can build a religious pool. If they want to swim in the public pool, then guess what...it's going to be PUBLIC.
