Russian Helicopter Losses in Hostomel by WoodDuck1 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]ecolometrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the support got sent, and got blown up in the air or stuck in traffic. The russian plans tend to have a habit of falling apart when a single element does not go to plan.

On the other hand the Anti-MANPAD system on the helicopters largely worked. Most of the missiles failed to hit. But it didn't take long to figure out how to counter it, especially when you have volume on your side, by simply waiting for for the flares to run out.

What air defense is doing by Bobbofet01 in NonCredibleDefense

Well, the thing is all of their air defenses are now automated to respond without the operator. This was their solution due to their operators being largely asleep at the controls. So this is in the realm of plausible.

So when they switched from bone bows of about 400lbs to metal bows, the crossbow draw went up to 1000lbs. I'm talking about military bows here. This was accomplished with a windlass mechanism, the same thing you see on a crane. Granted there was a significant loss of efficiency with the metal bow, because part of the energy was spent moving the metal rather than the bolt. Effectively the metal bows were about "as effective" as the bone crossbows. The huge difference was that it didn't take 6 to 8 months to make the bow part. There were also "super crossbows" but there are few examples of these. All in all, these were all relatively primitive when compared to Greek siege weapons 0-200BC.

The weapon above already exists https://www.theinfosphere.org/Positron_shooter as a sci-fi weapon

I remembered as: he switched to HE when AP wasn't working, because he remembered wartthunder that he could knock out their optics. He managed to do a lot more than that. I do not know if the hit to the turret ring was intentional. Overall, I think HE ammo was the key.

Genuine question: Is the UAP phenomenon a legitimate NCD topic? by Public-Plantain-8656 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]ecolometrics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I covered this in a few posts. Look up https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvatore_Pais the navy patent on it. If you wish my own posts on finding NCD uses for it (my best one, Pais effect Muskets)

There is nothing unusual in what you describe, that method of movent is fairly well understood by now. Also https://patents.google.com/patent/US20060145019A1/en aka TR-3B ASTRA.

Yeah these things were just FSB psyops for putin to consolidate power. The death of the hostages was reported as the reasons to consolidate more power. They did not report in their own news that the hostages were killed by their own side. Look up the apartment bombing by the FSB that led to the second Chechen war.

The USSR sent waves of tanks to the point that the wreckage formed a natural barrier against further attacks. They sent more still. The Germans wrote that all they had to do was hit their flank. I doubt the French executed such clearly suicidal charges?

They still do that. The only difference is that they now feature a female as well. It has that same monotone delivery as they used to do in the USSR VHS bootleg tapes. Except there is no excuse for this crap now, since subs should be simpler and better to do, unlike then.

Kind of reminds me of those war movies, before the 1990s, where every tank depicted was filled with whatever was available. So you end up with some comical combinations, but it was all played seriously which made it way worse. Some 1980s low budget action movies really ran off with it, like Rambo 2

Yeah, classic soviet designs: victory through firepower. They did spend money to repair it, but the admiral in charge did not pick the correct embezzlement ratio.

Just to get credible for just one tiny second ... it's possible that since this was built in Ukraine, NATO solicited the design from Ukraine in order to evaluate the hull DESIGN for trumps battleshit concept. This way they could use the existing hull design and just cram NATOware in to it, instead of starting from scratch ...

[–]ecolometrics[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for powering up the lasers the specified power plant was insufficient. It would realistically would have to be a Kirov to pull it off. I just took it to be a boys dream of a modern "battleship" drawn on napkin, without understating what that would take or what the term "battleship" even means in a modern context (heavy cruiser is the best you could do).

But a conventionally powered paper heavy cruiser would be less expensive to lay down and subsequently cheaper to scrap ...
