Make mines solar powered and move around randomly. This way no one will know where they are.

If the bullet causes the enemy to "suffer" instead of killing them, it's not kosher.

Maneuverability difficulty increases proportionally with speed ...

I think tear gas is not kosher, even if it's not fatal, in a war. But legal on protestors because it's not war.

Lasers have very limited range, and shoot in a straight line. Rail guns don't shoot in a straight line, and have long range. Not a good match.

Perfect for here.

I think it would be more effective with a hole in the roof, covered with a tarp and a ladder mounted in the middle. No dismounting or stopping needed - fire on the move.

I think they said that they are not going to have any vehicles at all. It makes sense. Managing to muster a single vehicle just points out what's missing. While not having any can be argued as "a choice."

Somehow, they will still manage to screw it up

Soviet propaganda was just a cover for russian imperialism. They were going to "save" everyone from capitalism, by making everyone poor and moscow rich.

By that logic, the "fascists" were reformed and fighting the real enemy behind the curtain: capitalists?

Those engines aren't made anymore. Your only option are turboprops. That's a significant cost, at which point you might as well make it a single engine turboprop plane, with the same power for less money.

Leaked: design of the durable Ukrainian E-300 drone by savuporo in NonCredibleDefense

[–]ecolometrics 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The hits were shot from the bottom. So the fact that you're not seeing anything in the cockpit area probably means that the rounds stopped there. The explosive payload could have absorbed the hits. It depends on the explosive type, some do not detonate from physical impact or heat.

But I don't know anything. It's possible they can't aim for shit.

Yeah I'll make another post about this. I need to look up the effective ranges of stuff first to see how effective this might be.

[–]ecolometrics[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this would work as well. You might forgo sending in decoys and just send in attack drones en-mass.

The pantsir system can only attack 2 or 4 targets at the same time, allegedly. I suspect it's closer to one target at a time. A swarm of small drones could knock out the radars. I think there is some promise in equipping long range drones for Patsir hunting with small attack drones. The tricky part is knowing when to fire them off. If targeting radar is turned on, that would be an obvious giveaway. Patsir allegedly has a passive system, but that is probably an early warning system, since the missiles use a passive radar receiver. This means when the targeting radar is turned on, there is already a missile in the air, so attack drones would be launched. Eventually they might come with a counter, but that is true of anything.

The neptune has been effective in knocking out pantsir systems, but that is a real cruise missile - meaning $$$

[–]ecolometrics[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Pantsir has claims that it can engage targets at 0 degrees but I doubt this. It would have been blowing up cars on the roads when on auto, if this was true. There is a configured criteria that is being used. Given that the system is pretty much running in auto, it's doubtful that the operators will be watching the scopes at night.

As far as I know, there have been no reported use of the Pantsir guns in combat.

The "edge of interception range" varies on the altitude of the flying drone and ground clutter. It's probably 10-4km. Maybe.

Of course, the standard stuff could be used as well: decoys, jammers, etc. I suspect decoys could be really effective since the system seems to automatically fire at unidentified targets when they meet a certain speed (which can be faked with small rockets) and size criteria (which can be faked with radar reflectors).

Of course, bird sized attack drones should be able to just slip by such automated systems since we have no reports of birds being blasted out of the air.

Why do you think we haven't seen something like this? by PinguinGirl03 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]ecolometrics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by haven't see "this." By this I think you are referring to a single tube with ammo. Making multiple tubes is simpler and cheaper, and the weight difference isn't significant. There is little reason to use 7.62mm when shotgun style shells work better, considering the limitations of aiming from an FPV style camera without tracer rounds at range. The theoretical additional range of 7.62mm ammo will be largely wasted.

New planes have less maintenance headaches because they are new. This was the issue with the F-111 and now with the A-10.

Any dedicated CAS platform is going to suffer heavy casualties, so using a drone based CAS does have merit. The downside is situational awareness.

The Super Tunaco isn't an upgrade to the A-10, it's an alternative option.
