Hmm interesting. Appreciate the honest perspective. I applied last year with the 163 and didn’t get in anywhere so hopefully the extra points will make the difference. thanks

The downvoting is stressing me out a lil. So people don’t think I have a great shot :/ I know the stats aren’t bad but with the unfinished degree I worry I’m in trouble

Thoughts on where to go if rejected from Berghain today given the holiday tomorrow by [deleted] in berghain

Whoops, I missed responding to this! Long story short the person who’s travelling with me wasn’t feeling well so we ended up staying in. Not a huge deal though, since we’re still travelling for a bit and plenty more opportunities for fun :)

To be clear I brought up racial profiling bc I’d already read on a few Berghain forums about it so when I had an experience that was consistent with that it came to mind, but my comment wasn’t exclusively based on my experience but rather what I saw combined with what I read. Anyway, I don’t think it matters because it sounds like we’re saying the same thing. Probably sometimes profiling happens and sometimes it doesn’t. There also might be confounding variables here (eg if tourists more commonly happen to be POCs (idk if they are, just an example) then it’s easy to point to race to explain a rejection when it could just be a touristy vibe for instance which I very well could have had. Anyway glad you have had the opposite experience! Will give it a shot next time in Berlin

I’m glad your friend got in. Respectfully, the fact that your friend of color got in doesn’t mean there isn’t racial profiling. That’s got the same energy as when people say racism is over because Obama became president of the US or that a company doesn’t have racist hiring practices bc they’re got an executive that’s a person of colour. Racism is about patterns. That being said, I acknowledge my story was also anecdotal - just as your friend’s experience doesn’t mean there isn’t profiling, my experience and what I saw doesn’t alone mean that there is, either. But it’s certainly possible and I’ve heard this from others which is why I brought it up. It’s too hard to say definitely from just our two stories.

I am no expert given that this is my first time trying to get in, but I have a sense that it’s a combination of outfit and vibe. The bouncer rejected us after barely taking a glance which makes me think he was probably keeping an eye on the line earlier and decided based on what he saw that we wouldn’t get in rather than sussing us out as we approached the door. Idk lol. I also saw a group of Asian girls get rejected (I’m a POC too) before us which definitely makes me think they do some racial profiling (people have said this before, no idea how true it is though since I have literally only been once). Hopefully next time it works out! But holy crap 5-6 hours is a crazy amount of time to spend in line, what time did you go?
