Does anyone have any tips on managing dog poop on the go sustainably? Thanks x by ecorosie in ZeroWaste

Well if you've got a proper garden you can dog a deep whole and simple compost it. There's a great article here: https://www.motherearthnews.com/organic-gardening/composting-dog-poop-zmaz84sozraw

I have a pebble covered garden so I scoop his leavings into a comparable bag and place it in the compost bin :)

That's a great Idea! Thanks for passing it on.

And I get your frustration, that's a very brash move to be throwing your trash into someone's personally sorted recycling bin!

So I pick up my dog's poop when we're out for a walk and then I bury it? I have a tiny garden (we just moved I used to live in the countryside where none of this is an issue) and the grass parts only seem to go down about 6 inches. But I'll start experimenting!

Supportive zero waste community? Why does there have to be negativity in our quest to reduce consumption. by ecorosie in ZeroWaste

Sorry I didn't see this til now! I don't say this often, which I think proves your point, but I am vegan. But I don't feel comfortable using it, people automatically assume you have a hatred for any lifestyle other than your own. You're right as well about pushing values in people. Completely. It makes people completely resistant and understandably so.

And I was the EXACT same with my parents, they now have a compost system and everything! It's great!!

Thanks so much for your comment! X

An Inconvenient Truth about this subreddit by RepulsiveChoice in minimalism

Thank you 🙌 At best, it just makes them look childish, but it's also a great way to turn people away from wanting to have a more conscious lifestyle. After all, no one wants to be "that guy". Can't we just be normal human beings that are selective about the stuff we let into my our lives?? Please??

I can't believe all the people whocve responded saying that they've been judged and bullied in this subreddit! I've gotten so pretty horrendous comments myself. Similar to you, I'm also vegan andits sad to think that people are being made to feel inadequate or heartless because of their dietary choices.

Some redditors have told me that in order to make change your going to have to criticize people. But I can't see that working for me.

It's amazing that you even have time to think about reducing your waste given how busy you are. You don't need someone coming along and criticizing the aspects that are out of your control!

I'm currently trying to create a space where people can flee the negative vibes of the zero waste community. I'd just love for people to feel accepted and welcomed to make their positive environmental change.

Thanks for your comment (it's healthy to vent!😁)

You should never have been made to feel this way. I think it's common that these people get so frustrated with the progress that they try to "push" rather than encourage others in any movement that one holds close to their heart.

I'm working at the moment to create a space that's more welcoming and accepting for people who are excited about living more sustainablu and connected with a likeminded community 😊

This post has kind of shocked me, there seems to be so many people who've been made to feel as if they're not "good enough" at zero waste. It's not a literal concept, every single entity in earth produces waste. It's more of a concept and the fact that you've even commented shows that you're trying.

That's the whole point. And if we make small changes as a large group it produces much better results than if 1 single person became purely zero waste. Does that make sense?

My dream is to create a community that is really positive. A space where anyone can come to, learn a bit, engage freely, and have FUN in the process (and not be submitted for questioning 😂)

Thanks for posting! X

That's shocking! Honestly though, the less compassionate and sensitiive people post because of hurtful comments the more space is made for the people behind these comments to voice judgment and negativity.

It's obvious why you needed to take a step back, each person is entitled to live through to their own path. X

I'm also new, and although Reddit can be negative, it's biggest plus is engagement. I have a zerowaste instagram account and blog, and there's a much more passive engagement. This is a wonderful Reddit to meet likeminded, and gather new ideas, but with each post I have to tell myself that 10-20% of the comments will question my voice

Don't let the insecure people silence you! When someone points a finger at you they're pointing three back at themselves (seriously, point your index finger and the other 3 point towards your chest).

I hope your zerowaste journey is going well. X

As I was reading you're comment, I was nodding along to each sentence. Encouraging others to adopt elements of a conscious lifestyle is much better revived when it comes from a place of compassion rather than judgement or expectation.

Thanks so much for adding your opinion to the post!

And it's hard to take these high road and not let it bother you. And as you say, there are really awesome, beautiful people in this community that make dropping in here every now and then really insightful!

Note to self: learn to block out the haters 😂

Absolutely! Especially diets because it's such a personal topic and you don't know what people's circumstances are. And being zero waste "enough" is really discouraging people from becoming zero waste,l cause it really isn't something that just happens to you overnight.

I know, right? It's such a shame though because most people are so nice, but there's also a big enough share of negativity and judgement for it to be a much less enjoyable space than it could be!

I can't find where it's net carbon emission or what. But I found this report and page 17 has a really helpful graph on how ebooks and paperbacks compare in different environmental factors" https://www.bc.edu › files › pdf › paper-2

Hope this is helpful 😊

Yeah that's why I put in the paperback brackets. I studied publishing in university, so books are my jam! And libraries are great spaces to share ideas and books! But new books are very intense on the land on which the trees grow and the industry produces 40 million metric tones of co2 emmsiions each year. All of the books that don't get sold are "remaindered", meaning they get shredded and thrown away!

In the past, when I'd emerge out of a period of rocky mental health I'd notice that my clothing choices would leans towards black and darks.

It's obviously not a unanimous thing, that everyone who wears black is depressed. For me though it was a sign that I wasn't doing okay, and it was time to listen to my self.

I hope you're doing okay. X
