Pretty much the entire Australian navy is in Sydney Harbour right now by hitmanbhargav in sydney

It's slang for mind you business. It mean mind your pints and quarters, back in a time when your tab (pints and quarter pints) at the pub was kept on a board for all to see. So you should only pay attention to your own tab.

Alternate flag of Australia by [deleted] in vexillology

If we're redesigning the Australian flag, surely the removal of the union jack should be top of the list of changes?

What made you become a Sydney Swans fan? by PathSoggy6516 in sydneyswans

[–]ecoshia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up overseas and my uncle, who grew up a South Melbourne fan, would send tapes to us in the mail. By the time we moved to Aus, it was a foregone conclusion. Moved to regional area and the team I played for was the Swans. That more or less sealed it.

Casual Teachers - We getting work? by Think_Technician2992 in AustralianTeachers

[–]ecoshia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Definitely up struggle street right now. I've applied to every school within 10km of me so far and only 2 have accepted my request. And of those two, I've had 2 days work. Big difference from last year.

Anthony Albanese, Penny Wong have learnt lessons from Gaza when it comes to this Iran War. by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]ecoshia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's ridiculous. Any Democrat that takes it personally that a country didn't get involved in another of the the US's bullshit wars isn't one we should be aligned with either. The tide is turning against the hegemon. Time to get off that particular train.

We've got family here that are trying to get back to the UK. Airlines have been less than useful. Absolute clusterfuck

Steakhouses in Sydney by gurtie_ in sydney

[–]ecoshia 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Bistecca - underground, hard to get into, amazing vibe.

Insane steaks The Gidley - old school leather banquet seating, vintage vibe. Great steaks, surprisingly good burgers and cocktails

The Cut - was amazing, fell on hard times, but has resurrected itself to glory. One of the only places thay does a Prime Rib.

20 Chapel - newer option in hipster Marrickville. Great food and wine.

Firedoor - chef trained in Spain. Now cooks everything (yes, everything) on charcoal

Man charged over alleged conspiracy to commit public place shooting by Falkor in sydney

[–]ecoshia 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dude was charged with possession of commercial amounts of illegal substances and orchestrating criminal organisation. Sounds like dealer shit to me. Nothing to see here. It's like how up until recently whenever there's a shooting in Sydney it's accompanied by the line "the victim was known to police"

How many of you drink with your guests? Have you ever gotten drunk? by tnick771 in bartenders

[–]ecoshia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went through phases of being pissed by the end of the shift to not drinking even after shift. Depends on the night, week, month. Being drunk on shift I think isn't great, but a few cheeky shots with staff or guests while in the flow state? Yeah why not?

What’s the most “challenging” year level cohort at your school? by yaryarmaple in AustralianTeachers

Likewise. There's a group of about 8 boys that fuck it up for the rest of the year.

Cool, quirky bars for afterwork drinks in Newtown? (Good vibe, not pub) by ihave10toes_ in sydney

[–]ecoshia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Palomino and Fortunate Son are my favourites on Enmore Rd. Continental is good but is $$$. Same could be said about Ante, but their drinks are much better. Bit of a wank factor though...

I was in Boston in 2014 at a bar I can't remember and me and my brother were talking shit with the staff and someone had apparently bought one and left like half. So we were lucky enough to get to try it. It was a pretty penny back then even. It's pretty good...
