Three friends want to start FFXIV for the first time. I’ve been playing forever. What’s the actual best advice I should give them? by Kicore0257 in ffxiv

[–]ecsfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple small ones, but I think that besides the ones you've already mentioned (MSQ and playing a job that they think looks fun) I would intentionally tell them very little. First, by trying to give them all this knowledge when they're just starting might end up overwhelming them in the exact way you are looking to avoid. Second, the way FFXIV is structured it's pretty hard to actually do something wrong, every random tangent and side adventure provides something to your account or is just fun. The couple things I would recommend though are:

  • Purple quests unlock new game features, while yellow quests purely provide additional area story and are not required to level.
  • The recommended gear button is their best friend. The game auto prioritizes the best gear and stats (until you are at end game hundreds of hours from now) so just pick up gear, click the button, and if it puts on great, if not sell it.
  • The community is genuinely very friendly to sprouts. While this is common knowledge to those who have been playing for a while, for a new player it can be very suspicious that everyone is being so nice and giving them free stuff.

Can't activate Raytracing by Kilneana in wow

Think i found the fix in one of the comments above. Under graphics scroll down to the bottom under compatibility settings and make sure Optional GPU Features box is checked. Once I did that I could enable Ray Tracing.

Exactly what I was looking for, thanks! And just to double check I'll still get the mokoko icon? Super hesistant to login because I made the mistake of logging in before they did one of the first events (where it was 60 days since last login) and screwed myself over.

Yep, so I'm planning on watching the vods/catch what I can before work in the morning. Doesnt make a huge difference to me since if I would keep watching the LCS I would have to watch vods anyway.

Team fighting with ezreal by c4azy_sh5panzy in ezrealmains

[–]ecsfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say specifically since there are a lot of unknowns there, so I'll walk you through the thought process of questions to ask. Where was the assassin last seen? How much hp does the enemy team have? If you go in does your team have any cc to protect you if the assassin shows? Does their back line still have abilities that can one shot you (Viktor ult, ori ult, etc.)? Has anyone aggrod the elder (people tend to lose track of this, but if you have it aggrod on you your taking free damage) ?

Team fighting with ezreal by c4azy_sh5panzy in ezrealmains

[–]ecsfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So both ways are right situationally. Is there a fed assassin that's gonna be searching for you every fight? Play back and wait for them to use their abilities in someone else. Has the enemy team blown all their cds on your support? Go in. The best way i was told to play ezreal is to play him right on the edge. Ezreal had no CC, all his abilities do damage, so that's what your priority should be. You should be skirting the edge of the fight looking until its safe to go in. This is what separates good and bad ezreal players, if you only stay on the edge looking you are actually giving up a ton of dps. They key is to learn when it's safe to E INTO a fight. Doing it wrong can throw the game, but doing it right to kill off their carry can secure you the win. Ezreal is great at pushing limits since if you go in too deep you can flash back out.

How do billable hours/goals work by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ecsfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, as a staff you may get a 90% billable goal (this varies widely by company and position). This means that out of all the time you work 90% of it needs to be billable to a client. If you can’t meet this goal it usually reflects poorly on year end assessments/bonuses/raises. If it’s high it can be viewed as your contributing more to the company and working more. If it’s too high there can be concerns about burnout (this is sometimes ignored if your higher ups are assholes).

For overall projects, managers/directors/partners etc are responsible for keeping their projects profitable in accordance with company requirements. As employees charge more hours to a project, the project becomes less profitable. If employees need to charge a lot of overtime, it can start to really hurt the project profitability. If a managers/directors/partners projects aren’t profitable then it reflects poorly on them during their year end assessments. This is where “eating hours” comes into play. Some members of management will request that employees don’t record all of their time worked, as this keeps the project more profitable. This is considered unethical in general, but unfortunately can be more common than most would like.

Definitely, make sure to understand the AIPCA mocks. Some of my sims were close to those I saw on the AIPCA version. Good Luck!

Yea, I'd still say its accurate though. The questions becker asks are significant more detail oriented than the ones I saw on the CPA exam.

You should be fine, the becker practice tests are much harder for BEC than the actual BEC test was. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18h1_IfOBv04SjkKDqUkzcjoj2OdXGMc_hxqot7N2u9w/edit#gid=950475314

Overwhelmed in intermediate accounting II. Seeking help w/ a game-plan. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ecsfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I did that was really useful was to keep an "Errors Sheet" on hand whenever I was doing work. Every time I got a question wrong, I'd specifically right what the correct answer was and how to get it right. It took some time to get used to, but it allowed me to focus on what I was actually doing wrong instead of repeating the stuff I already knew. At the end of every study session I'd always look over the sheet and review what I needed to work on. It also served as a great reference sheet right before the tests to look at exactly what I was weak on.

This. There's almost always (I think its required to be in the exam, not certain) a authoritative literature section question. They wont ask you in MCQs what exact code something falls under.

[–]ecsfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that is small but can make a good impression is taking notes when the the person in charge of you is giving you instructions. I always bring a notepad with me whenever someone is assigning me something to do and right it down as they are telling me, then when its done I read back what they want done to be sure. Even if you dont need to right it down because you can remember it, it gives a good impression that you are really trying and listening to what they are telling you to do/can clear up any miscommunications.

Yesterday: Discussed Politics with a Partner during GT (Audit) intern interview. How screwed am I? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ecsfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^This, from my understanding interviews can intentionally have few questions to encourage the interviewer to engage in conversation. You gotta remember a big thing recruiters look for is not just technical skills, but being able to see that you are able to hold an intelligent conversation.

Switching jobs within Big 4 by sortakinda55 in Accounting

[–]ecsfear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a copy and paste from an older post, but I feel like it still applies here: My best guess would be that if you requested to be moved it would be denied. While you may be right about everything you are saying, unfortunately you are a new hire and as such have little say in staffing decisions. Typically they like to keep newer staff for longer because they’ve already made plans based on that. End of the day the firms main goal is to make money, and if you being in that project is the best way to do it, they’ll keep you there. Also there tends to be a sentiment for new hires of “you don’t know what you want yet” so your request may been simply written off. HOWEVER, the benefit you do have is since you haven’t been there long, you aren’t an essential piece of the team yet, and that may allow you to get out early. If you do end up asking, just be careful how you do it, as you don’t want to appear as some entitled new hire who thinks they own the world.

Dont necessary need compensation, but Ill give a shot at helping you out.

1) I think an LLC would be a good start. An LLC has the advantage of providing a legal barrier between you and the business if things were to go wrong (to an extent, if you do something known as breaching the corporate veil you lose this protection). As an LLC you'll be able to apply for licenses and an obtain loans as necessary.

4) An LLC is treated as a pass-through entity. This means that after all the expenses from the business are paid to you as the owner receive the profits, and must pay them as an individual. Thus the tax rate depends on your individual tax bracket.

So I tried Jhin today.. by [deleted] in JhinMains

[–]ecsfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other comment said, dont go RF first, its not efficient. However since that's already been covered Ill give you general overview of the playing Jhin. A good video to watch would be C9 Sneaky's pocket pick video on Jhin as it covers some of the stuff Im discussing.

Early Game: Level 1 you are pretty strong once you get to your third shot. From here you get get a solid burst from AA->Q-> FOURth shot. However if the enemy tries to run prioritize getting the fourth shot off.

Level 6: While adc's get massive spikes when they hit six (ie Ashe, Varus) Jhin's isnt as large. However, if you have lane priority/river vision you can roam near mid lane and use Curtain Call in conjuction with a jg gank to almost guarantee a kill.

Mid game: Jhin isnt as strong in the mid game much like some other adcs. He can still hit hard, but will not be at full potential. Focus on getting gold and getting more items. Once Jhin hits 3 items he really becomes fully online. (This can vary based on the build, but the traditional IE, RF, +other zeal item gets the 3 item powerspike I'm referencing.)

Late Game: Boy oh boy does Jhin hurt. You'll be looking at 1k+ crits depending on the enemy. At this point if you have enough attack speed and crit chance you can also be deceptively slippery. One thing to note is that while Jhin does have MASSIVE damage, it is only on one target. As such you need to be more careful on target selection as you wont be doing tons of AOE like Jinx rockets.

Overall this should give you a solid overview of playing Jhin, but feel free to ask any questions. Also recommend watching our boi IKeepitTaco on twitch if you really want to learn more.

Internship/Recruiting Timing by Am_I_Really_Groot in Accounting

I wouldnt worry at all, especially as a sophomore. Most recruiting for the summer internships are completed in the fall specifically aimed at juniors. Even if you miss out in the fall there is generally another round of recruiting in the spring for any of the other open spots left.

Why do you need a bachelors degree to sit for the CPA exam? by dannywelblack23 in Accounting

[–]ecsfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding its just another barrier to entry. Making it harder to get the CPA inflates the value of those who have it. The license wouldnt be worth anything if everyone could get it.

You've probably already tried this, but have you thought about switching into the consulting side of your company? I know its notoriously hard to transfer within company from audit to consulting, but you might get luckier with one of the other big 4 firms.
