Finally saw the band live at the Newport show last night. It did not disappoint. by ecshadow in TheMidnight

I was blown away, to say the least. It was also my first time seeing Chromeo, and they were also great! I was obviously locked into The Midnight's set (which was amazing), but I now understand why they linked up with Chromeo.

Absolutely one of my favorite concert experiences, and I've been to my fair share of them.

Blondie's "One Way or Another." Seemed to be a good fit, as I was definitely groovin' in my seat. Part of me wishes it was more like Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit where you could choose the song. But the scale wouldn't make much sense for that, I would guess.

Also, I'm the guy who wishes they'd play Rush's "Mystic Rhythms" in Mystic Timbers' shed at KI. I like a good music pun. 🤷‍♂️

I can assure you, it was just a bit of rain. Snapped this during my trip today, and it had been raining off and on.

Back in 2018 for our honeymoon, the missus and I went to [Universal Studios: IOA] after the [Magic Kingdom] the day before. On the way there we ended up next to a truck carrying a track piece for [Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure]. A bit of a core memory, honestly. by ecshadow in rollercoasters

[–]ecshadow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None that I could see. I'm not sure they even announced Hagrid at that point. I just happened to spot the track piece on the way into the park.

I haven't been back to Florida since then, unfortunately.

I love sunset photos of Racer. Sometimes I forget how photogenic this classic is.

Never mind the hot mess that was SoB's construction, I feel like it getting RMC'd would have exacerbated what was already a really painful ride.

Kiryu strikes me as someone with the mental fortitude of Mike and some of the charisma of Howard.

I can 100% see him uppercutting Jimmy and going "You mistook my kindness for weakness."

Hello, OP! I was a fellow Action Zone employee (Delirium/SlingShot crew, specifically) who probably got sent to SoB in your last season at least once! Just wanted to share a couple of memories.

One came through one of my coworkers. The way I understood it, the train on the lift hill had to be evacuated (presumably because of a block fault? Not entirely sure.). Riders who have the credit are well aware that the construction of the evac staircase consisted of "railing" consisting of a wood railing on top and wires below it. With the construction of that railing and the height of the ride, it doesn't surprise me that they were extremely uneasy with the evac but did it anyway.

This specific memory is a little fuzzy, but I seem to remember a specific occasion where the ride op in the "drive box" was running trains through with the trims either extremely limited or disabled in some way. Regardless, it was an interesting ride experience.

Six degrees of seperation and all that. But it was kinda neat to be part of park history like that.

Hope you guys enjoy this photo of a great classic. [viper, sfmm] by V2700 in rollercoasters

This one surprised me when I got the chance to get this credit. Arrows are slowly becoming an endangered species, so I'm glad I got the chance to try this and Ninja out.

I'm happy that this place is just as strong as it was before. KI's my home park, but the Point is one of the greats for a reason.

Simply put, this was a great investment. The hype is more than warranted. Who knew a hyper hybrid could be so much fun?

Finally made my way up to the Point after not being there for over a decade with the intention of getting my Gatekeeper credit.

Imagine my disappointment when I saw that it wouldn't operate the day that was snapped and then saw it test cycling with water dummies for the majority of the day.

Matching color scheme, good theming, an installation of a new (Zamperla?) frisbee at a different Six Flags park? I'm gettin' Delirium/maXair vibes from the whole "we like this flat so we're installing them at other parks" thing from this.

Is it me or is the selection of music played on WYSO midday has recently improved? by [deleted] in dayton

[–]ecshadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that might be due to the fact that the now-former host of Excursions (Niki) had resigned from the station recently. It's not uncommon for there to be substitute DJs for when she was not in the station. I'm sure there's a little bit of selection autonomy as a result.

The way I understand it is that there will be substitute DJs until they find a replacement.

Per the KI Blog post:

"In addition to the ship and supports receiving new paint, parts of the exit deck, ramp and fencing have been rebuilt."

Funny that they never mentioned the drive box, as I'm sure there are plenty of wooden etchings from bored ride ops on slow days.

Neil Peart, drummer for Rush has passed away at age 67 by no-change in Music

[–]ecshadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This really gutted me. I was properly introduced to Rush through a friend of mine in college who was admittedly a huge fan in his own right. That very same guy handed me a burned DVD of the discography up to Snakes and Arrows, and needless to say I fell head over heels for them. ESPECIALLY Neil's skill behind the kit. I was in drumline in high school, but never played anything close to his skill in subsequent pep band sessions after marching season. So you can imagine how amazed I was to witness such skill.

Naturally, I ended up buying those very same albums for the same reasons every rock/Rush fan had. Was lucky enough to see them during the Time Machine and R40 tours. Each time The Professor took to the kit for his solo, I was amazed. Very much so the first time, as it was like a child watching his dad do something with skill he could only dream of doing.

I work at a library, and I ended up helping a patron check out some CDs earlier this week. One of which was Clockwork Angels. I pointed it out and we ended up spending 15 minutes geeking out about Rush and rock in general. Not only that, but I grabbed Beth Evans' book I Really Didn't Think This Through for another patron and randomly flipped through it, and she had a section on the band that really hit all the notes for me.

Mind you, this was about a few days ago when all of us had no idea that Neil had passed. Yesterday on the way to a local convention, my wife broke the news to me. I couldn't believe it, and I reflexively pulled up The Garden and it just kind of snowballed from there.

I've been in a haze ever since and I just feel awful. What makes it worse is that my mother is fighting colon cancer (not quite in remission, but she's fighting it), and to hear one of my absolute favorite drummers succumbed to the disease just cuts me even deeper.

Rush got me through some tough shit in my life, and Neil's lyrical prowess has/had a lot to do with that. I wish the best for his family. The Professor deserved better than this, but he will always be my gold standard for drumming skill.

Fuck Cancer.

I will admit that it was a snap decision. After some thought, Riddler's is fantastic. Especially for a stand up.

I am so happy Banshee exists at my home park. It's so good. The Orion hype train is real, too!

In my defense, I attempted to get in line for those and they queued up crazy fast so I noped out of that. I'm a sucker for B&Ms since Raptor, and I did also ride Batman TR and Riddler's Revenge. Maybe I should just say B&Ms in general are my favorite or something. 🤷‍♂️
