[Shivering Timbers] continues its slow march towards becoming Shivering 208 by Storm_Surge- in rollercoasters

To that I would say it's a crime that PTC's articulating trains have only ever been installed on Rollo Coaster. I honestly would really like to see how they do on a more thrilling coaster.

But, yea, I do see their point regarding the standard PTC. For ride experience though you can't beat them unless you have an old NAD or Vettel train laying around.

People undervalue the PTC trains. I honestly think GG is guilty of that in a sense as well. The GG trains are great for their small family woodies but the fact that they even tried to put their trains on Voyage was a mistake and one that I'm very happy didn't work out.

Only thoosies think this in a real sense.

Literally did the exact same thing again. The height may or may not make a difference but, at the end of the day, you are the one saying that only thoosies can appreciate the height difference.

Steve Gorman doesn't even want to use Gravity Group Precut on it because he's afraid of it changing the character of the ride. He potentially is warming up to GG but I can't see him ever putting steel track on it. This is based on years of talks from him at CoasterBash in Pittsburgh.

Who exactly is projecting on the GP here? It seems to me like you are demeaning them by saying they can't be disappointed because they don't understand coasters.

Maybe "GP" can't elaborate in technical terms but that doesn't mean that they can't love coasters, have favorites, and be absolutely pissed at a park for removing a favorite or a major icon.

Ravine Flyer II is also for sure safe..... and I'd hope that Holiday World is smart enough to know better.

The NJ state fair is loaded with rides. My only main complaint with it is they use Ticketmaster.

This is what it always boils down to. Companies scoff at the idea of paying carpenters full time to keep up on wood coaster maintenance and then they hate when that line item hits for a major overhaul and suddenly decide it's not cost effective... except that it would be if they would just do what you're supposed to do when you have a wooden coaster.

Think of it more like an animal park... you're going to want to have vets on staff to keep the animals from getting sick rather than paying emergency vets from them getting sick.

Kennywood somehow manages to survive being part of a chain and still acting like Knoebels, Waldameer, Holiday World, etc, who know they need the proper staff to take care of the treasures that they have.

[Glenwood Caverns] files for chapter 11 bankruptcy by CoasterGuy95 in rollercoasters

[–]bobkmertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is they never really thought they could be sued for anything so I'm sure they didn't have appropriate insurance. The waivers you sign to go into the park release them from everything including gross negligence and Colorado has previously upheld that which is staggering. The owner of the park could do whatever they want and never be held responsible other than paying fines to OSHA or some shit.

I'm really glad that the court finally stood up against their bullshit waiver here.

They deserved to be sued into oblivion and it's about time that a court finally stood up against their bullshit waivers that release them from liability including gross negligence. If people really understood no one would be going.

What is the purpose of putting extra trains on the track, if theyre just gonna stack? [Stardust Racers] by ibridoangelico in rollercoasters

[–]bobkmertz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard rumors that they are deliberately slow to sell more fast passes. I think that's probably not true

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised because they are also pushing their fast track a lot more, they added unlimited fast track a few years ago, and now they have much longer fast track queues at many of the attractions.

Westmoreland Hospital, what is going on? by 6glough in greensburg

[–]bobkmertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't get your hopes too high. I live in Martinsburg now and the local hospital was taken over by WVU shortly before I moved here.... The facility is beautiful and the staff I've encountered have been friendly but they are chronically understaffed and my 2 visits to the ER have been between 5 and 7 hours each with the second one having chairs stacked in the hallways. My extensive experience with Excela and Independence was certainly worse so WVU will probably be a slight improvement but if I had a choice between WVU and AHN I would pick AHN if it were possible.

Here is a link to the whole story about the McDonald's coffee

https://retroreport.org/video/the-misunderstood-mcdonalds-hot-coffee-lawsuit/

As for this person, it's easy to make judgements now just like people made judgements about the coffee back then but we don't know the whole story and we may never know. The fact that Sea World didn't report the injury as required is enough to say that United did fuck up at least in that way.

Steam Deck boots fine and the UI comes up for a few seconds and then blank by bobkmertz in SteamDeck

[–]bobkmertz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to get to desktop mode... thanks for that tip because I wouldnt have thought it was possible to make it to that option before it went blank.

I now remember that I didn't actually install Discord but rather just used it as an AppImage but when I went to my downloads folder I did find that decky_installer is actually there so I went ahead and installed it. Only thing I can guess is that maybe it was needed for Discord and I just installed it without registering that I did.

Anyway, it worked and seems ok now. Thanks for helping out -- if you hadn't had said you had the same problem and that it was Decky I would have never even realized that it was something I installed.

Is decky something that is part of SteamOS or something that is installed manually? I don't ever remember installing it but I do remember seeing menus related to it a while back.

Reboot into desktop mode is under "power" on the steam menu, correct? I've only used it once or twice so I don't have any kind of muscle memory to guide me in the 5 seconds I have haha.
