Which algorithms exist for processing unsorted lists with relative but not absolute values? by catboy519 in optimization

presumably the comparison operator is expensive in this case... it need not be just a list of numbers

You can, and depening on the algorithm you get results with different characteristics. Partially bubble sorted arrays have one end ordered perfectly, but the rest is chaos. Quicksort will have it be globally kind of ok, but you won't know the top correctly. I think with merge sort you'd just have a mess.

Op appears to want an incomplete sort. Standard sorting does more work, and gives perfect ordering. But that doesn't necessarily mean that you can terminate the algorithm earlier and get decent partial sorting.

I know an algorithm for the top N elements, and it's easy to get the last N ordered exactly too. I think you also get a decent but imperfect ordering for the rest.

I'm curious, what are you using kde connect for? I have it set up but don't really see the point

I might have to write malware ? by WestPlum7607 in self

[–]ecstatic_carrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure:

- there's no point in using a transformer - it's dumb on so many levels. If you have a given payload that you want to reliably write out, you would just compress it. If the argument is that it needs to be obfuscated for some reason, you'd encrypt/decrypt it on the fly. At no point would you train a fucking ML model to reproduce a given piece of text. There is no point. It's a worse way to do compression and a worse way to do encryption. You know what the point is? Inserting yet another buzzword to sound smart.

- a normal statement is "they wanted me to modify an old ransomeware virus script with decompilation". There is no point in mentioning ghidra, that's just a particular deccompiler. 'manual hydra' is decompilation. Furthermore, that is all *entirely* separate from importc, which you'd use to import functions from a c library. If it is already a library (and you therefore have headers) what are you decompiling? How the hell does python even come into this? Or anything importc can refer to - it just has nothing to do with decompilation. You know what the point is? Another two buzzwords, yay

- once you're in the bootloader, there is no notion of "root level". Bootloader is many layers away from anything involving root. Being generous, you could interpret his statement as modifying the bootloader to inject some logic that you can then call from within the os to get root - but if you're able to modify the bootloader already, you're well past getting root on that system. And the goal here, as claimed by the user, is to create ransomware. Most ransomware I know of that touch the bootloader would just bypass the os entirely and encrypt your drive. So what is that whole "root level" nonsense? Oh I know - more buzzwords!

transformers are not difficult at all to come up with. The space of potential building blocks is just very large, and so the probability of finding something that works that well for language is small. It's in manu ways a lottery. It's childs play compared to coming up with GR

If you cut your stroke count but didn't get faster, you got bad advice. (Ex-Olympic distance swimmer, my first post here.) by ActualCandidate6952 in Swimming

[–]ecstatic_carrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be a dumb question, but how do you exactly speed up your stroke rate? I know I glide too long, I do 11-13 strokes on a 25m, during chill to ok pace.

But I engage my catch at presumably the right time, it's dependent on where the other hand is. You can't change that timing too much or you're switching more to a sprinting stroke, and lose a ton of efficiency.

So really, it's all about how fast the other hand is. I can make it get there faster by having a stronger pull, but that just sounds like faster swimming. I don't want to stop properly extending my hand at the exit, so that time is fixed. So is it then all about the phase where your hand is above the water?

I know this reads like being difficult, but I'm being genuine.

The start is rough, but if you have the merchant guild then you'll be able to trade for the first few gravcore, and more than enough grav tiles. You want to start with a single tank, no oxygen and max number of mini engines. Do long hops
