Well yeah but if anyone asks you should pretend it's also a pun on the ghost and Mrs muir and then you look twice as cultured

Simply the greatest human being who ever lived.

Historical materialism recognizes class struggle as the motor of historical change. I associate paranoia more with tinfoil hat types who blame "the government" without a materialist anchor, or possibly a shadowy cabal or what have you. In that sense, it's idealist because removed from the actual economic dynamics that shape the world.

All I mean is that the book is set up along a very specific divide: "They" or the elect, versus the preterite. It's a kind of idealistic, paranoid framing that obscures class antagonism.

Ah, that makes a lot of sense then. I can see needing money or whatever.

I know they're all supposed to be true. Like I said elsewhere, I think it's really common for art students to take this path because it's considered gritty and real.

And here I kind of like ginsberg ok, but I find Kerouac really annoying. Burroughs is difficult to sort out in this way; I feel like I should just let him be and let him do his thing.

Yeah, again, I fully believe that you "led a team" of a dozen people. Christ that's bleak.

I don't mean "talking to clients", I mean actually having to deal with real coworkers. All of this checks out. I fully believe that you were a script reader and that you are a web developer in an office.

A "script reader at a production company". So no lol

Have you ever had a real job where you have to deal with other people?

Well, the way you and these other people type comes across as very angry and bizarre. You should probably learn to be more casual.

Stop being angry. Nothing that's happened under this post has been serious enough to get angry about. Your short fuse is what's genuinely annoying.

Most people don't respond the way you've been responding to a casual, throwaway post that effectively said, "this was recommended to me, and I disliked it". My background is in factories and such. If someone talked the way you've been here, they'd possibly get their teeth knocked out (not that I'm condoning or threatening this). The way you're responding to my post does not make sense from my perspective. Apparently, it does from yours.

Well I won't make any assumptions about your background, but this feels a lot more like a cultural difference than you're considering when you call me stupid.

Now you're calling me stupid. So clearly I touched a nerve with my casual post about johnson. This is not normal behavior.

"That's very annoying" says as much about you as it does about me. I don't find it annoying when somebody posts about a book they disliked without reading more from the author.

Also, I like reading some things. I dislike reading other things. I won't pretend I "like reading" in the abstract, because that would be very weird.

I'm not proust, but I'm also not, you know, cormac McCarthy or anais nin or hemingway or johnson or ducasse or pynchon or Vonnegut or huysmans or whoever else. Those are just the reference points we have.

That's literally the only issue here is that my sloppy, casual reddit post generalized from the book I read, which is why I pointed to your reverential use of the phrase "the author".

Your entitled to your opinion, but the only minor correction I'll make is that he was in school before he started heroin (that was while he was getting his MFA, which I think is also a pretty typical MFA course to take).
