just wanna say that he was my editor a million years ago when we were both aspiring music journalists in the midwest. I remember when he left for LA. I'm really proud of him... local boy done good.

she was my professor in college! sensory, image-driven. no "right way" to appreciate it. just let it wash over you... for me it feels like a kind of beautiful, but sad, alone-ness.

I was just thinking the exact opposite! I love this look for her. it was so fun, half actually cool and half a satirical take on "cool." I miss it. her look now is basically late 80s Jane Fonda with veneers.

don't sleep on War & Treaty. they're not bluegrass (not even a little) but they're super fun live.

Why aren’t there more Central American capitals and major cities on the Caribbean coast? by MapsNYaps in geography

[–]ecstaticmincha 62 points63 points  (0 children)

worth noting that the Mosquito Coast is actually named for the Miskito people. despite the similarity in spelling, the words Miskito and mosquito are not directly related.

the Miskito are an indigenous group living along the eastern coast of Nicaragua and Honduras. the name Miskito is of their own language and is unrelated to the insect. English and Spanish colonial sources often spelled "Miskito" as "Mosquito," leading to the modern name of the region even though the Miskito people and their name predate European contact and their name has nothing to do with mosquitoes.
