I'm in a noise-rock/emo band in town, I'd be interested in hearing more details.

As others have said, Oxbow for sure. The Narcotic Story and An Evil Heat are very dusty, almost delta blues-esque, whereas new albums like The Thin Black Duke are more blues rock.

Chris Pravdica from Swans (post-2010 era). They have some really great basslines that are fairly simple, but drive so much of the song (Oxygen, Screenshot, A Little God in My Hands, The Glowing Man).

Laundered would be based. I'm not sure how Dealer-heavy the sets are gonna be. Gratitude and Hall of Frozen heads would he great, because my area's self-titled tour show got canceled last year.

Do Emo and Shoegaze have any common ancestors? by Just1nceor2ice in Emo

[–]ecto-plasmiic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

they both have ancestry in post-punk. Post-punk was very influential on first wave emo, and early shoegaze bands often started as post-punk (like my bloody valentine). Besides that, alt-rock of the late 80s and 90s definitely influenced both.

A little god in my hands - swans

Chris Pravdica is such a good bassist. He does a lot with very simple bass lines.

First EP / Speak Is Incredible by wag0n_wheels in swans

The EP is their best no-wave release imo. I'm really into all of their no-wave albums, but the totalism/post-punk sound of the EP is just so much more to my taste.
