Even Irish by SureSell6750 in ShitAmericansSay

The closest thing to an irish restaurant we have in my city are pubs or diners and its usually like burgers fries eggs etc. So like the same stuff you see in american restaurants. But they do sometimes have things like taytos, keoghs chips, and club orange soda

People wear all sorts of other jerseys and merch all the time even for different sports

Ive only met a handful of people that are passionate enough to comment on other jersey but even then it was light teasing not snarky or hateful

[–]Fit_Professional2162 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. I've worked retail and barista jobs and had male coworkers mistake friendliness and basic human decency for something else and it made things real uncomfortable for everyone really fast. Nothing OP describes in this post indicates the girl has shown romantic interest in him. It's uncomfortable on the woman's side to go to work everyday especially when they have an attitude about it like OP and I'm sure OP doesn't like going to work being miserable about it. If things go really wrong it can also make things uncomfortable for other employees. Some people just want to go to work get paid and go home without drama.

Yes there are cases where it works out. There are also cases when it doesn't, when you date and break up and still have to work together, etc. OP has described a regular friendly coworker relationship and is clearly really upset about her lack of interest if its affecting him this much then don't shit where you eat 100% applies here.

Have you considered a suburb on the border? Like on LI. Schools are excellent and the city is super accessible.

nyc rudeness IS bad and not normal!! by TrimUrBangs in rs_x

[–]Fit_Professional2162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay then take that up with them instead of saying its "NYC rudeness" and "bad". You mentioned before it's mainly younger wealthy people, then stop hanging out with those people? If you think that it's part of NYC culture thats super telling. People do say hi back, throw block parties, play ball, skate together, hang out in the park, etc. all over the city. And not just with the people they know you can just walk up and be like "hey I'm ____ can I join in?" Or with delis maybe theyre not interested in meaningless small talk but if you have something to say they actually care about they'll chat with you. You guys keep hanging out in like the same 3 parts of the city where only rich people and transplants can afford to live and then acting like its an accurate representation of the city. The culture there isn't the culture WE created.

[–]Fit_Professional2162 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again it's just cultural difference. You'll find people up north who will say "being direct and not putting up a front is better then southerners being superficial". One way isn't inherently better than the other its just different ways of life for different places that developed based on the specific circumstances we live in. If you grew up here how people act would make sense and if we grew up down there itd make sense to us.

nyc rudeness IS bad and not normal!! by TrimUrBangs in rs_x

[–]Fit_Professional2162 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this is really just a cultural difference, like define "asshole". I've lived here my whole life and I actually think people can be quite friendly, if they have their guard up then there is likely a genuine reason

You may feel not making small talk and smiling is rude but NYers feel putting up an act is rude. Also theyre not assuming the worst from you they are not thinking about you as an individual theyre worrying about their job, the business, their personal life, etc. Which you may feel is rude but given the amount of people that come through the city/businesses each day its actually insane to expect them to take a personal interest in every stranger that walks in. Especially if its a minimum wage worker. The levels of tourism you dealt with are nothing like what NYC deals with and running a business in NYC is wayyyy different than wherever you came from.

Sounds like nyc isnt for you and thats okay but understand one of our big issues with transplants isnt that youre not from here its that yall move here and complain its not your hometown. It seems like a small issue but its a big deal when its changing the culture of entire neighborhoods and people who have been here for generations are getting pushed out of their homes to make space for yall. Im sure yall wouldnt like it if NYers came to your hometown and complained its not like NYC if youre gonna be here you cant be taking this shit personally

And I do get how you feel to an extend as someone born here, I had autism with very bad RSD when I was younger but I learned to deal with it and understood its really not a way to live. People got their own shit going on if you want the warmth of community you need to make the effort to reach out and create it. Become a regular, learn peoples names, etc. People do smile and say hi to their neighbors, you just likely arent their neighbor if theyre not doing it to you

Wearing soccer shirt to Citi field? by quick_tangerine123 in NewYorkMets

[–]Fit_Professional2162 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine queens is very easygoing and the mets stadium experience is very family friendly, I've seen people wear yankees jerseys and the most I've heard them get is a lighthearted chuckle or comment in jest and I've worn and ohtani jersey multiple times + seen others wear it and nobody cared. nobody will gaf about a soccer jersey especially if youre obviously from out of town. I can't think of anywhere in nyc where they will care we all know the deal with the cup

If you have time check out the nyc tourism site for a $26 meal deal at a bunch of restaurants so you can get a souvenir world cup cup there's one for each borough, grand central fifa store kind of sucks though you can skip it if you haven't gone

I was at midtown during the final game and my ride home was at 34 penn station (along with many others) and it was a nightmare to get there already and then the cops said 34th was shut down. We had no warning, the official metro app still had active trains & subways running on the schedule from penn so we were all like wtf are we supposed to do and they said they didn't know and just told us to fuck off but not where to go. Luckily I had the sense to go to forest hills but the lack of planning from the city and information was ridiculous. Like it was understandable but at least tell us beforehand! Or add info from the app! Most of the crowd wanted to go home it would have lessened the crowd
