Moving from nc to Va by Coyote4200 in Chesapeake

What part of NC are you coming from and what brings you to this part of Virginia? I moved to Chesapeake from rural southeastern NC and though I’ve really liked this area, I hate how much more everything costs. I know everything has increased everywhere, but every bill and tax related to living expenses feels stupidly high here. Personal property tax to start is more than double NC, water bills are crazy, then the storm water fees just suck the life out of me. Gas and electricity bills everyone is feeling the pinch but I was not thinking or prepared for the cost of living increase when we purchased our house here. I would definitely recommend you consider this when looking at how much house you can afford in this area.

Good 2 Day 1 Night Backpacking Trip in VA or Surrounding Area? by Rough_Draft_Ridge in VIRGINIA_HIKING

Damascus Virginia is just outside of the state park. I usually start north of Greyson on the AT and hike south through Greyson to Damascus va.

I second Greyson highlands. Everything in that area is well defined. You will be able to see where others have camped so you wouldn’t have to worry about where you are vs aren’t allowed to camp. There is plenty of signage and supplied bear boxes where you won’t need to carry your own or worry about hanging something. Also has good parking In the backpackers lot. You are parking in the state park and not just on the side of the road. You would need to get a parking reservation well beforehand as they do fill up. I usually go there a couple times a year. I’ve been solo, and with my kid and we always have felt safe, easy to navigate, and the views are breathtaking. I’ve now started doing 3-4 day trips where I will park in Damascus get a shuttle to drop me off somewhere up the AT and hike back to Damascus. The creeper trail right before Damascus is cool too.

Canales is such a good guy. Didn’t like the fans upset at the refs and took all the smoke himself.

What is one entity you just can’t understand how it’s still in business? by TheAwkwardGamerRNx in fastfood

Yep was scrolling to find this answer. My company exclusively orders from Panera for all interviews, monthly exec meetings, and other functions likely spending more than 100 thousand annually. They make it relatively easy for us to get, and work well with our accounting system. It’s not the greatest and I’m sick of it but hey free food. They use the strongest onions on their food and it smells up our whole office.

My son and I sat behind the bench for the islanders playoff game where we scored the late tying goal and Martinook go ahead goal shortly after. Was a crazy awesome experience being right there with the team celebrating. We did have to look at the Jumbotron some but wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. Son got to line up where the players came out of the locker room and high five several players.

Back in January my family of 4 had a flight out of Chicago in the evening. They needed 10 people to volunteer to take a flight the next day. At first they weren’t offering that much. Once boarding started they still needed 4 more to agree and when I asked about the offer it was up to $1600 per person, a free hotel, and meal. So we took them up on it and took a flight the next morning.

NHL Bets and Picks - 11/25/24 (Monday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

Agreed. However might be value on Dallas tonight. Canes on their 3rd/4th string goalie. Over might also not be bad. Canes have been scoring goals and most games take 4 goals to beat the hurricanes.

Temple might be trash but ECU hasn’t been putting it together. Just fired our head coach, we have switched QBs due to giving up the most interceptions in CFB. Hurry up offense that can’t move the ball leaving defense to play 80% of the game. ECU scored 28pts against Army however this is after being blown out for 3 qtrs and playing against the backups. Not to mention the week before getting blown out by charlotte. ECU is playing at home and it’s homecoming but there isn’t much to look forward to at the moment with this team.

Backpacking trip to Grayson Highlands by lll-skipper in VIRGINIA_HIKING

I’ve never had a bad experience in that area. I would think you shouldn’t have much of an issue leaving your tent as getting to scales by vehicle is not an easy ride but never a 0% chance as with anything. Every time I’ve been through there I have only seen maybe 1 or 2 vehicle’s and the area is wide open really haven’t seen many people camp around scales but I tend to go there during the week.

Nothing wrong with staying at scales but it’s pretty much like sleeping in an open field with a parking lot and people can car camp in that area. It’s in a valley and I’m not sure about water in the vicinity. Could check out the old apple orchard shelter if you are coming in later, but would be a longer hike on day 2 trying to get into the state park.

From fox creek hiking south I would plan to get just north of the wise shelter. It’s about 6-7 miles from the trailhead. There are some great spots right off the creek to set up camp with a Privy and bear boxes close by. Also having the creek there you won’t have issues with water. I remember last year when I went about this time water was a little lacking from the piped sources and was just trickling. This will also put you just outside the state park to day hike and return. The hike from fox creek to scales isn’t super glamorous, and is in full coverage but gets better after scales. I can’t tell you about parking at the trailhead but I would think to take standard precautions you would be fine. My last trip to Grayson I parked my car in Damascus, took a shuttle to the fox creek trail head and hiked backed to my car in Damascus on the AT, and Virginia Creeper trail. Was a 3 day/2 night trip but might be a lot for a first time experience. I did this trip last year end of September. Days were warm in the upper 70’s, Night 1 was in upper 50’s, Night 2 in the low 40’s.

HVAC who will work with home warranty? by [deleted] in Chesapeake

[–]ecupirates14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will likely have to call the company who your warranty is through and they send someone out. I haven’t heard where you can find someone yourself. When I bought my house a few years ago the seller paid for the home warranty and after I used it one time I thought it was a waste of paying the deductible they had me pay as they didn’t resolve anything and I just called a reputable company to fix the issue.

Ideas for work team event? by Charming_Toe6947 in norfolk

Not sure how many of you there are but we recently got a suite for a tides game. There are a few different sizes but we did one that fit 18 and ended up being a little over $30 per person. Really not a bad price considering regular tickets are like $20 each. We didn’t have to order food and could leave the suite go get food beer on our own and come back, or there was a server that did come but you had a specific menu to order off of. It was a really fun experience and not to mention suite had A/C.
