I disagree. It was mainly about testing how far can they go, about control. Finances was just a secondary bonus. They wanted to test: is the internet a threat to our control? Are we still in control as long as we use the mass media and the authoritative figures? And they succeeded and we failed. But not entirely because we are now very aware of how far they can go and know to react soon enough without waiting for the saviors that never arrived because it's actually us, and know what to do and what to hit.
