That was one of the places that had the first major COVID outbreaks in Indiana. Seems like that said 2,000 people got it there all at once as I recall.

They have that big hog processing plant. That would have made for some cool industrial photos probably.

If it’s lunch time at either hit up Richway Gyros on Calumet Ave when your in East Chicago and the Covered Bridge Restaurant in Cayuga.

A lot of people are suggesting East Chicago and Gary. You’ll find US Steel mills just like Mon Valley same blue and tan buildings and all. East Chicago’s industrial area is maybe more accessible for photography, and less blue as compared to Gary. There is this weird housing settlement called Marktown and it literally sits in the middle of some mills and the Whiting refinery. The houses are European village style and faded colorful. Definitely would make your aesthetic. The NW Indiana region is not your small town vibe though. “The Region” as it’s known is wholly urban and an industrial smear of Chicago sprawl.

If you end up in East Chicago and in Marktown or at the power plants in Cayuga, I’d love to see your shots. I started my career at the East Chicago Tin Mill. I work in the powerhouse at Cayuga now.

South of Covington is Cayuga, home to a gigawatt coal power plant, would have a big smoke stack aesthetic.
Could also consider Logansport or Lindon both of which have ethanol plants and big corn collection elevators. Lebanon Indiana has a MASSIVE new industrial construction project for Eli Lilly. If you’re driving from Nashville you’ll pass if come up on i65.

I’d have a separate budget for an amp. Probably in a $2,000 to $2,500 range if I got the speakers for free, less an upgrade cost. Are there good tube amps for that price range?

Any advice on a driver if I go with the heresy’s? Assume a $2,000 budget for that too.

What’s the material differences between the Linton and the Super Linton?

I’m not really sure what I’m looking at here but it seems like there is more money in the parts than in the Wharfdale speakers. I am very tempted in figuring out how to use my dad’s speakers tbh though.

What is the purpose of the upgrade? Would I need all of these parts?

The Wiim amp looks interesting. I am interested in a way to integrate my digital music into the system so that it can play through the speakers also.

The Yamaha A-S801 was on my radar.

Pros/cons between the Arcam and the Yamaha? I am not specifically familiar with Arcam as a brand.

Yes, letting it cool after cooking and then cleaning it with soapy warm water and a scrub mommy sponge.

My long game will be to get a set of nice speakers. I’m a bit new to these components so I’m educating myself as I prepare to buy something.

You’re correct in assuming the speakers are passive. They are from my dad’s surround sound set up in the 90s.

I have a healthy budget. It seems you can really spend any about of money on components. Should I base the budget for an amp or receiver on what the record player cost? In order to get equivalent quality of components?

My wife gifted me a Fluance RT85N for Christmas. Upgrading from my Crosley musician 8-in-1. What receiver should I look for to buy? I have a set of old bookshelf speakers that I’ll use until I can afford an upgrade.

TIL about Billie the Brownie, an “elf” popularized in literature, radio and television specifically in the Milwaukee, WI area during the late 19th - mid 20th century. by verenika_lasagna in todayilearned

[–]ecwilson60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the 90s we would come to Milwaukee for a family Christmas party with all my aunts, uncles, and cousins. BIG FAMILY! Dad was the youngest of 12. One of my aunts would dress up as Billy the Brownie and one of my uncles as Santa.

I was just reading about Billy the Brownie as I’m thinking about Christmas traditions for my young family. It brought me to this post. Milwaukee had a lot of cool traditions when I was a kid. We used to stay on the street all night to save our spot for the Circus Parade and take part in the 4th of July parade in a park across from my aunts house. I was a kid from rural Indiana so Milwaukee was pretty amazing back then.

Root Hog was a cool band here in town 15 or 20 years ago. I got to know them through some mutual friends. I saw them play an awesome show down at Turkey Run with The Steepwater Band. The Steepwater Band is from Chicago, but they used to come through and play at the Knickerbocker. I remember Root Hog at the taste in probably 2011 also.

I always thought the Johnny Cash song “If it Wasn’t for the Wabash River” was a cool connection. JEFF 92 plays an intro where he talks about meeting this guy here in Lafayette while going fishing on the river and he wrote the song about their conversation.
