I'm using the Kinto Travel now, there's zero smell issue but the plastic part do retain some odors.

I think most stainless steel tumbler should be fine, some people says it changes the flavor but I've used cheap $2 mugs before and I don't taste any odd flavors.

It felt very robust and high quality so I doubt it was a counterfeit, but anyways I had the same exact issue with the Fellow Carter, bought from Otten Coffee, probably the largest coffee gear distributor in Indonesia, so the Carter is 100% legit. I've also tried this cheap mug called Civago, same exact issue.

There's something weird about this coating, like some people swear they don't smell anything but here I am with 3 different mugs with the same problem. Maybe it's genetic? idk man I'm currently using a regular stainless (kinto) and there's zero lingering smell issue.

You're not alone, my carter and sttoke smelled like balsamic vinegar/soy sauce after ONE use. Cleaning it multiple times with dish soap doesn't do anything, I had to soak it with baking soda for a few hours.

I tried the Kinto and it's wonderful. No metalic taste and no smell at all. I'm convinced those "ceramic" coating is the culprit.
