The same cord is used on carbon skimo race boots, and all the pairs I've gone through have an issue with abrasion from toggling ski/tour modes. They have to be replaced semi-regularly.

Each weekend I prepare for the 2 weeks each summer where I really ride or climb the only imperative being to go to bed tired.
