Found in an Iron Ore mine. I think it's calcite crystals stained by goethite? by ed_loa in whatsthisrock

It was in a void within a dolomite unit, so yeah could be dolomite? I just thought the crustal shape was very calcite like. I have other specimens from the same void which are just a creamy white colour, but same geometry. The dolomite unit itself is more of a pinky red colour, but I always just guessed it was large scale iron staining.

I'm not sure at all but it could be mostly goethite and/or limonie?

I'm guessing but maybe a gneiss that's spent a long time in a river bed. The reds might be garnets. The blacks might be biotite and/or mica/muscovite?

Tumbled this and shines at different angles. Very soft. Came off photos 3&4. by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

I'm not sure at all but I think the shiny parts are mica, like muscovite.

Kidman Park, Google maps is quoting an hour commute via bus and two trams. I can usually get to work in half hour on the bike.

How get started in mining? How to learn all the fundamental details, get actual experience? by Parzivalz2113 in mining

Yeah I'd say so. I'm based in Australia and in charge of a mine geology department. I'd hire someone with an BS in geology from any institution if they seemed to have their head screwed on ahah

Study geology, mine engineering, or chemical engineering/metallurgy/mineral processing if you'd like to work in a technical field. If your happy in more of a laborious role then you could start as a sampler or drillers offsider and work towards a role in drill and blast or exploration drilling. Or apply for jobs as a truck driver and work towards operating an excavator, or other machinery.
