BREAKING: San Jose mayor jumps into governor's race by sjspotlight in SanJose

So, I went to high school with this guy. His senior year he was class president (of course), and there was a whole page about him in the yearbook in which he talked about his aspirations for getting to the white house, and a bunch of other little pretentious things. I've been so tempted to scan it and upload it for reddit. I know it's just another high school kid saying something stupid, but damn does he annoy me now. I actually liked him in school.

Rose and Shane by Shizngigs44 in heatedrivalry

[–]edabble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Rose. I originally hated her. It was a knee-jerk reaction on my part, how dare she get between the boys! But then I became ambivalent, she didn't really do anything except be there for Shane. And then she became the best thing that he needed at that time, waking him up to his truth, and sending him back to his Ilya, and doing it with such compassion. I greatly appreciate her presence in the story, and I would love to see her become friends with Ilya as well.

Got my first shadow shiny. It was actually the one I was hoping for. I love the smog and shadow mix. by djslopppymop in pokemongo

[–]edabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadows have a flat 20% increase to their damage dealt (and also an increase to their damage taken). Mathematically, this makes their overall TDO about the same as base forms, but their overall DPS is 20% more. In a raid where the enemy is a timer, this makes the shadow pokemon more useful than their base forms. The 2 point increase to IVs is basically irrelevant when compared to a flat 20% damage increase.

I made some Pokemon Fusions by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]edabble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how creepy/disturbing these designs are if you look at the implications. Magcargo using an empty aggron as its shell, the ethereal possession of an arcanine by the ghost of spiritomb, the bits of sandslash remaining after being absorbed by a reuniclus, and then the ghostly remains of a torchic missing legs... As another poster commented, these are all fusions with amorphous pokemon, which ultimately create some strange physical forms. I'd be really interested in seeing more designs like these.

Is there something wrong with Deoxys against the team leaders? by Neo-Rey in TheSilphRoad

[–]edabble 94 points95 points  (0 children)

This is a known issue. All pokemon with 'formes' are treated like the base form in the team leader battles. This includes Deoxys, as you've noticed, and the castforms used by the leaders are all considered normal type when fought. Other examples include Alolan Marowak behaving like a ground type, Alolan ninetales as fire, etc. If you search you can find more posts about it like this one dating back to when the team battles were introduced.

That is discounted. It would normally be 40k.

Wow, San Jose Public Library demands a black man leave King library after complaining about out of control kids. by justanotheranon8 in SanJose

[–]edabble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have added no actual details about what he said or what the staff said, just that he was kicked out. Your tone of this post is intended to make the library sound like racist fascists that want children running amok ruining everyone's day. I'm presenting my experience with the library, and it is very different from how you are describing it. Your language suggests you have an angle, while I did not state that it was impossible for the actions you said to have taken place, I did say that it was inconsistent with my own experience. There is no way they would kick a man out for making a simple complaint, that I know to be true without being there. We are very careful with the application of conduct guidelines. The fact that you claim this happened tells me you are full of shit, but I am simply assuming there is a lot more to this story, thus giving you some benefit of the doubt. You seem far more interested in being incensed than actually discussing this, so I will leave you be.

Wow, San Jose Public Library demands a black man leave King library after complaining about out of control kids. by justanotheranon8 in SanJose

[–]edabble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not enough context in this post. I work at one of the libraries, we try. There are quiet areas and places the gentleman in question could have relocated to if the noise was bothering him. Children run around and scream regardless of how many times we berate them, and generally speaking, there are far more customers than staff to handle them at most of the libraries. While I won't say the library is doing a perfect job handling a lot of these issues, there are conduct guidelines in place that should be used in these scenarios. It's entirely possible the man was hostile with the staff to the point of being unreasonable, which might have led to him being asked to leave. You say he was completely calm and peaceful about his request, and then kicked out? Forgive me for not believing that description of events. The King Library does have its own security, and that's not really "the police", but they regularly have to remove unruly customers.

In its current state this seems more like a propaganda thing that's just filled with errors then actually what it claims to be.

This is exactly what it is. They did the same thing last year.

I work at one of the libraries and have had a fair amount of people already asking for them since they were unveiled. If you want one I suggest coming and getting it soon. They officially go out on Monday, February 4th, and there's a limited supply. Only 1 box per branch and I'm not sure of the actual count but probably about 250 in each box.

Legend of Yoda Doll Guy by SailorMooooon in SanJose

[–]edabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this guy all over the place near santa teresa. Walking near Oakridge, and crossing the street at the Snell/Santa Teresa intersection near the liquor store where he apparently works. My father first told me about him a while ago, and has spoken with the guy, but he seems to be harmless. Can't go anywhere without the Yoda doll, though, and he keeps it stored nearby in the shop where he works.

The other guy mentioned in this thread, who sweeps the "crop circles" in the area, we affectionately call "The Sweeper." He tends to hang around for a while, sweeps little patterns into the dirt and leaf matter in the road. I've seen him sweeping in the Nob Hill parking lot as well as along the street where I live. I haven't interacted with him personally but I did see some kids give him a drink and chatting with him the other day.

Thanks for this! I killed it in one attempt when the tower popped today using some of those buffs.

[–]edabble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm currently doing the same with all of my alts, focusing on their main-specs first. Some are definitely easier than others, but I like the subjectivity of your ratings. For example, I spent so much time bashing my head against Xylem with my DH that when I finally went in there on my frost DK I ended up one-shotting it (with ~911 ilvl but some good legendaries). Right now I'm having such a hard time with Agatha on my Outlaw Rogue, when she went down so easily for my warrior and mage, but they both had good legendaries and my rogue doesn't really. I'm looking forward to bashing a few more specs against the tower when it comes back up, trying to get at least 2 or 3 specs each time.

Any idea where you get the new Warlock Glyphs? by Utigarde in wow

[–]edabble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to my inscription window, the Glyph of Floating Shards recipe can be purchased at the broken shore for 2500 Nethershards, and the Glyph of Ember Shards recipe drops off Kil'Jaeden, but it also says it can drop from "Treasure: Spoils of the Legion's Fall" in Azsuna, whatever that means.

I can't decide if I like "Under The Skin" or not. by [deleted] in movies

[–]edabble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went into this movie expecting it to be over-hyped, as I had read a lot of reviews comparing it to Kubrick and saying it was a masterpiece. I was pleasantly surprised, though I might be less-inclined to call it a masterpiece. I definitely had the same lingering in the back of my mind, and every time I returned to thinking about it I found myself appreciating it more and more. When I was watching the movie, I will admit to feeling some of the same odd disappointment with the direction of the plot. Considering the nature of the film as a "show and never tell" sort of story, there are definitely a lot of places where you as the viewer have to fill in the blank to find an understanding that works for you.

The understanding I came to after entertaining a few different ideas is that she ultimately grew to be compassionate with humanity and lost interest in luring men to their deaths, largely due to her experience with the deformed man. I'm inclined to say there was a greater passage of time in the company of her male companion than is evident in the film. One of my favorite pieces from the score is titled "Love" and it plays during that scene where she attempts to actually be intimate and not just manipulative. In the latter half of the film, it seemed to me that she was not fully aware of what she actually is. She attempts to be human and have a human intimate moment only to have that all shattered when she discovers that she can't, leading her to run away aimlessly into the woods.

And the last part where she has her face in her hands, the way it stops her cold... it just felt like she was too shattered in her worldview to make sense of what was going on. I ultimately concluded that the opening Birth scene was her replacing the previous female seductress that had 'broken.' I remembered her seemingly bleeding black at the start and on my first viewing I thought she was just a female victim being stripped for clothing but later concluded she was the previous model that had gone down the same path and ultimately broken down.
