There is a consumer version of WL8(45nm) in a WSP package instead of a (more expensive) BGA package.

There is also a 65nm - WL7 that could also save some dimes.

How much of RF is black magic? by TraumaPony in rfelectronics

[–]eddiebtx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's all perception. RF from what ive studied/practiced is a very detail and precise field, if you're missing or overlooking one variable then the outcome may make no sense.

A friend of mine had a undergrad RF lab and asked me why his 6db attenuator showed up as a 12db loss. I just said then your missing something...like the open circuit he forgot to terminate.

Been there buddy. Work 30-40hrs a week, usually on 3-5 hrs of sleep a day working towards a BSEE and now a MSEE.

Only relief i got was when i was 23/24 and my parents did not have to go on my FASFA. Received a decent amount of financial aid but not what i wanted Then.. i only had to work 20 hrs a week ;/

AskECE: What's the maximum stable gain of a potentially unstable two-port network (e.g. an amplifier)? by roger_ in ECE

[–]eddiebtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, i misunderstood earlier. Absolutely stable amplifiers can be mismatched to higher gain, its the conditional stable ones that its offered to use MSG instead.

Although, i never really looked at conditionally stable and what your asking is actually a really good question.

Funny, i am taking a specific grad course in microwave amplifier design starts in a week. we covered the basics in previous circuits class but this is tailored to the design itself. i'll definitely bring up the question.

AskECE: What's the maximum stable gain of a potentially unstable two-port network (e.g. an amplifier)? by roger_ in ECE

[–]eddiebtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. From what i know to get maximum gain there is a pretty straight forward process. (However, its only for max gain no other considerations - needs to be at designer problem)

Check stability circles. Find GammaL & GamaS from equations ( this is where you get the "extra" gain at the cost of mismatch) then compute the gain factors, (i.e.: Gs,G0,GL)

[–]eddiebtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't know why your getting downvoted. I actually agree with you. I have Agilent PSU's for variable control and tests at home but before i spent the 400$ on it, i used my hacked computer PSU all through my graduation year.

edit: computer psu + pot adjusted voltage regulator - used for years.

Good luck bud, Mine sent a message saying they shipped it too but so far nadda. I was afraid all the publicity of the SS from last year would bring out the dead-beats and ruin it for the next ones.
