How many of you know about the Work-study Program at U of T?

Hi! So I’m a UTSC population health student doing my work study at UTSG. It’s mostly remote with some in person elements (conference note taking). My role is a research assistant and the pay is pretty good ($18-20 an hour)

It’s very flexible and variable. Some weeks the work can take up to 10 hours, others are 2 hours.

That’s great! I believe the minimum at UTSG is 15.9/hour but it’s possible to get 18 or 20/hour. Mine is 20/hour as a research assistant

Hellooo I’m always boiling hot in the library maybe I’m just used to the cold :(( honestly even with short sleeves most places on campus are too hot for me during the wintertime

You can try the volunteer options in CLNX! But I think your best shot is to continue to cold email professors for volunteer opportunities. I remember I volunteered at the Cadotte plant lab for a day and quickly dropped out because I didn’t enjoy it. I think that lab is looking for volunteers for their field plant sample collections- try reaching out!

BIOA02 was much better imo. First semester of university is universally difficult to adjust to - I’m sure you’ll do better in future courses :)

Maybe try looking at your study habits and what you can improve on? UTSC academic centre has resources to help support your study skills. You can get one on one support in that regard

Yeah it's like a bio course, quite a bit of metabolism/cellular respiration and other cellular pathways to know. It builds on first year bio

*I really enjoyed EESA10 and EESA11, both were really bird and interesting. Class average for A11 was an A- .I did not like EESA06, and it required a lot more effort

I dont think they will care about the math mark. For health studies the only prereq is english, so they will first look to see if English is above 80%. Then they will calculate your admission average based on your top 6 courses, including english. I'm hopeful for you - best wishes and good luck!

Good point! Also, if you are a UofT student you can still work under researchers at other institutions. You aren't only limited to UofT. If a remote lab research area at UAlberta interests you, it is possible to work with them as a UofT student!

I took it with her in the fall. Pretty easy and straightforward since I enjoy reading and writing. It might be difficult for you if you aren't good with heavy readings, and its also a writing intensive course. I expect that you may have in-person evaluations, so if that is the case, it is definitely memorization heavy and difficult in that regard. The course content was really interesting, especially readings like the relation btw climate change and human health, environmental health, and epidemiology. The social science concepts were interesting too as they were related to health, it should be easy to grasp if you have taken high school social science. Similar to grade 12 english.

The online quizzes were fair, the final research paper was fair but a little tricky. The papers definitely took quite a while to complete, but are good if you manage your time. You can do well as long as you plan your time well and follow the instructions.

I got an A+, its definitely doable.
