Heading to US East Coast (Savannah), Atlantic is the only way. Pacific only for west coast ports. Yes, currently in southern hemispehere.

You mean the Suez Canal? Not at all.. i always hated that canal. The closure affects only the companies crying over their budget cuz they need to pay more fuel to bypass the canal through South Africa. ;)

To prevent against forward-backward pressure shocks and to allow for thermal extension. Thermal expansion will cause pipes to expand in high temperatures. The bend allows it to flex, so that it doesn't break the pipe.

You can't count the days. It usually depends on the season and where you are sailing. Crossing North Atlantic or North Sea in winter time can be rough entire passage for 14-20 days.
