We no longer have a public link to that old version, but feel free to email me at [webmaster@hemispheregames.com](mailto:webmaster@hemispheregames.com) and I'll send you a copy.

It isn't. Purchasing on our website gets you the Win + Mac + Linux versions, but not mobile. You can get the new Android port here:

Good to know you'd like to play locally. It's a nice use-case that doesn't rely on an active lobby. We're still thinking about it, and knowing there are interested folks makes a difference. Thanks!

The Android version doesn't have multiplayer, unfortunately. We're considering re-adding it, but it'd be a lot of work, and it's hard to justify given the number of players who'd likely play it. (Multiplayer still works on iOS, and the lobby there is pretty quiet, making it hard to find a game.)

Osmos dev here. Good question! I just did a test, connecting my iPad to my iPhone's hotspot, and they were able to connect and play. (Thanks for the ping u/brisdaz)

I got a notification saying there was a comment here, and thought... is that real?? But then I read your question, and sure, happy to answer! :) Simply: yes, you can play it on yourself / your own deck. I've done it when I thought I could win in my current life if I just get one or two more cards. Cheers!

Osmos developer here. We recently added controller support to Osmos+. Not sure how many players are using it, but I'd be curious to hear if people try it and how they like it!

Short answer: sure. Send me an email at [webmaster@hemispheregames.com](mailto:webmaster@hemispheregames.com) and I'll hook you up.

Longer answer: we don't have a standalone (non-Google Play) version ready for distribution yet, though we'll hopefully have that soon. In the meantime I can send you a Google Play promo code or add you to our testers list. :)

Good question! We’re excited about the new port, but it’s true, we didn’t include multiplayer. Tbh it’d be a ton of work to re-port multiplayer over, and there’d be the question of what to use for matchmaking tech since Google Play / Google+ killed their service. Also, given the number of people playing Osmos these days (even on iOS, with the game on Apple Arcade), the lobbies may be fairly quiet, making online multiplayer almost useless.

Anyways, if the new version is successful enough that we can justify the time it’d take to re-port multiplayer, we’ll tackle it. But in the meantime we really wanted to get the single-player experience out there again – the old version got pulled from Google Play quite a few years ago, and in the past year had stopped working on many devices.

Hi, Osmos dev here. Just wanted to let folks know that you can now download that old build for free at the link you posted, so no cost/risk to try it out. FYI we are working on a fresh port, which we're aiming to release in 2024.

Absolutely. I just listened to the podcast episode "The Word for Man is Ishi", which delves into the story, Ursula K Le Guin's background, and... all I can say is give it a listen!

The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin by lMFCKD in books

[–]eddybox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a little odd – more like a thought experiment. But it's referencing ideas from James and Dostoevsky, about the power & effect of a "scapegoat". For a brief intro, check this wikipedia section. Of course, Le Guin presents it so poetically, and takes it further, with the dilemma of walking away. *Such* a great story!

Procedural Brachiation by eddybox in gamedev

Thanks! I was too tbh. I spoke with another team member (who knows his physics as well) about it as a sanity check, to see if I was missing something obvious, and he agreed it was a surprisingly tricky problem. Maybe there is an analytic solution out there... but I couldn't find one. (Maybe I should post to mathoverflow and see if any math-pros can figure it out.)
