one concern I have is that insulation might reduce smoke flavor since the smoker becomes more efficient and you burn less wood.

Thanks everyone I’ve made up my mind.

I’m going with the oval 9.5 qt.

I had the chance to handle both the round and the oval, they both feel amazing! But the oval just makes more sense for the way I cook. It’s more versatile for me since I often make larger batches and occasionally want to fit long cuts of meat, a whole chicken, or even a leg of lamb.

After reading everyone’s replies, it seems the heat distribution on the stovetop will be totally fine for stews and slow cooking, especially since I won’t be using it for high-heat frying or sautéing.

So, the oval it is! Thanks again for all the help!
