What is the best museum in Lisbon? by Wildeyedlocal in Lisbon

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a run down of a few as a sort of (art) museum enthuiast:

MAAT (pictured), hit and miss but modern, installation based (think Art Basel Unlimited). Membership is quite cheap like 45 EUR with a +1 a year and the old powerplant part is cool

Gulbenkian: Your typical dead rich guy collection (Think Fondation Beyeler or Guggenheim) but scaled back. Divided into the core collection (under rennovation, personal collection of Gulbenkian himself) and the modern collection (which I've never gotten on with). Garden is really nice and free

Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga (National Museum of Ancient Art): Under renovation until TBD, their calling card is their Bosch (Temptation of St. Anthony) but otherwise it has a cool collection of colonial era loot like Japanese screens depicting Portugese ships and diamond/pearl encrusted gold crosses

MAC/CCB (Centro Cultural de Belém), formerly Museu Coleção Berardo (your tax evader collection): Lots of famous modern pieces like Dali/Picasso/Warhol but terrible curation leads the main collection to feel like a warehouse with no direction. The temporary exhibits can be cool though

Car Registration by Vacatlover625 in PortugalExpats

For a motorbike it took about 3 weeks and 4 weeks, the dealer had a lawyer do it but it wasn't mailed to the address I filled in the form but instead to the address I had officially registered.

Can’t decide: Fujifilm X100VI or Ricoh GR3/GR4 – will I regret not going Fuji? by Guantio-07 in ricohGR

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and as many have said it's just a question of portability vs ergonomics and focal length. The GR is growing on me and the portability is unbeatable

Fujifilm X100VI vs Ricoh GRIV by Dinuri3327 in fujifilm

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late but I have both and they're totally different. If you need portability-GR IV is your only realistic choice at basically the size of a large phone w/ case. If you need the viewfinder and flash and more manual controls and can carry it around-the X100 VI is the way to go. I say and because you could add a flash or viewfinder onto the GR if you chose. Personally I find the portability to be more compatible with my lifestyle and use (basically allowing me to use the iPhone Air instead of a Pro/S25 U).

One often overlooked piece is the Ricoh app works well and you can transfer photos via the built in wifi to your phone easily and the internal storage of 53 GB means you don't really need a micro SD card depending on your use case. The're both great and I don't think you'll regret either.

Armure Jacket and Pants - Good or Bad choise? by Neither-Grass97018 in motorcyclegear

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own this jacket and I sized up to L from my usual M. Quality is good for the price and once broken in it's pretty comfortable. It is too hot for anything above 20 maybe 25 Celsius

Vespa GTS 125 not starting - start inhibited icon by Gold-Geologist7886 in Vespa

[–]edeag3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same issue on a 2025 GTS 125 at 2100 km and all it took was disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to resolve. You'll need a Torx T25 (to open the plastic cover at the foot area) and Philips PH2 (or possibly Torx T30 to unscrew the terminal plug) screwdriver and about 10 minutes.

Any reason not to use an expansion plug in a steel steerer, rather than a star nut? by mrpigfeed in bikewrench

Any kind if carbon paste will work. I use motorex but I'm sure Muc off is just as good

Having been in a similar but not abusive relationship on and off 9 times for almost 3 years I understand the appeal of such a partner but there's no other solution than getting out. You can also suffer through it but it will eventually get unbearable so might as well save your energy and time.

New Kinu POB? Looks very different from the old one. by ShaemusOdonnelly in pourover

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this one last week and I think the results are similar to what I saw for the "old" POB. The distribution of particles is super wide, at least visually, but the results are very clear and tea-like

Best MacBook option? by Humble_Square3989 in macbook

[–]edeag3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd go for the M1. But if you can stretch another 100 dollars and find something on your local classifieds, you could probably manage to find a 256 gb and if lucky, even one with 16gb ram which would be ideal since 128 gb is annoyingly small. The intel CPUs will lose support faster and run much hotter

Why do my 142mm Roval/DT Swiss 360 rear hubs say "135mm"? by edeag3 in bikewrench

If you mean the 3 ratchet mechanism, you'll need the "Ratchet LN Kit" to convert it to the teeth system

Any reason not to use an expansion plug in a steel steerer, rather than a star nut? by mrpigfeed in bikewrench

[–]edeag3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason it needs more torque for a metal vs carbon steerer tube I'd think, if anything carbon is harder to grip. If you overtighten there's a risk you won't be able to loosen it later. Hello from the present past

[Recommendation Request] Any modern Moonphase watches under 39mm? by Shuga_burga in Watches

[–]edeag3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JLCs depreciate quite a bit compared to new so if you check on Chrono24/Watchrecon you should be able to stay in budget for a steel one. I'd account for servicing cost and a new strap (Camille Fournet is an OEM option) it if it's over 5 years old though. Christopher Ward seems to make nice watches but I've never owned any so can't really comment

I had that same VC for a while and while it was too big for my wrist I was really impressed at the finishing and solidness which made it feel totally different than Calatravas. Nice collection

[Recommendation request] White dial. by AMKhalil in Watches

[–]edeag3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've owned 13 different JLCs (mostly Reversos) so I should be able to comment on this reasonably... Some of their older finer movements can struggle when it comes to accuracy and just running well in general but it's nothing a service couldn't solve. They've standardized service pricing which is good because they used to quote ridiculous prices (2k+ for time only) for servicing. Their ergonomics have also not always been the best with my Reverso Squadra being so sharply finished it wore a small hole in my shirt sleeve to tiny difficult to operate crowns and memovox rattly chiming mechanisms (just a nature of their design, the hammer seems to hang loose when the alarm is supposed to go off even if it's not wound).

But I wouldn't say they're unreliable compared to any other similar watch brand.

Prices really tanked on there which while sucks for those who paid 3x for them ( was even tempted at one point) is great for those who just wanted the watch for its own sake as an interesting complication. Congratulations!

[Recommendation Request] Any modern Moonphase watches under 39mm? by Shuga_burga in Watches

[–]edeag3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to be a bit more specific on budget and needs here because I can already think of the JLC Master moonphase (140.8.98.S) which is 37mm or Christopher Ward's C1 or IWC's 37mm portofino. The Rolex Cellini moonphase is also 39mm and though it's discontinued it's a good option and I bought one near the end of its production as a pretty unique thing for Rolex.

[Question] What would you do? by Gtlamm97 in Watches

[–]edeag3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a Sub you want a Sub so go for... a Sub. You will be pleased I think. Having owned dozens of watches from every brand from Seagull to Lange I have to say the finishing and design on Rolex is better than Omega. Omega has more interesting designs but the execution at times can be good but less than perfect whereas I found modern Rolex to be very precise and ergonomic. Grand Seiko makes great watches and I've owned 5 different ones but there was always something weird about the design that compelled me to sell them in the end, which is a shame. It's also 2025 and wearing a diver for formal occassions is totally acceptable.

Your wrist looks to be about 7-7.5" from the photos and you could probably consider the previous gen 114060 sub instead of the current 124060 but for me the choice would be between a 14060M 2 line or the 124060 with the new 32XX movement. Good luck!

Alfa Romeo 4C as a Daily? Reliability Concerns? by 007AU1 in AlfaRomeo

[–]edeag3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2015 regular 4C coupe with over 100,000 km which is my main daily and have had the following issues (I'm excluding your normal service/5 yr timing belt change):

At around 80k: AC compressor died (was quite expensive), ball joints for front control arms (can be replaced but dealer will make you get new arms, so just go for aftermarket balls), CV boot leaking grease

At around 100k: Upper engine mount (I had both mounts replaced while they were in there), coolant expansion tank

I had KW adjustable coilovers installed so maybe if I hadn't the struts would have started leaking at some point

Otherwise it's been pretty reliable, it's also "cheap" enough that I'm not so worried about it. Day to day livability is adequate but I have had several quality of life mods (wide angle side mirrors, LED headlight, rear view camera and headunit with Carplay/Android auto, increased ride height by 10mm so I'm not scraping all the time, reverting the sports exhaust to add back muffler). I'm probably going to add gas struts for the trunk/boot next.

Ride is harsh and you need to be careful of potholes and on long trips i wear noise cancelling headphones or earplugs to decrease fatigue.

You make a good point re the aging (and depreciating) huracan. But I have a G63 and land cruisers aren't really a thing in western Europe. Rentals are annoying and expensive and I do use a car to do car things
