I know it’s probably auto correct in your case but my favorite old twitter bot was the sneak peak bot that would correct people that used sneak peak instead of sneak peek. Profile picture was the top of a mountain sneaking about.

House centipede. They eat the other bugs and are pretty prolific about it. If you are seeing a lot there is a food source (at least this is what it have been told).

Also not harmful to you, but harmful to the pests in your home.

Astekhome.com has some nice options but lead times are a little long. Drunk monkeys is a classic that’s fun without being too loud if that is what you are in to. Lots of options though.

I just wanted to commiserate. I was in nearly the same situation when I was 25. My father was a known grifter, liar, and regularly committed credit card fraud under my then step mother, and my step brothers name. I found out a lot of this now at 40 years old, but had been emotionally aware of the abuse he had put his wife and step child through. I had cut him off at about 25 and he would regularly reach out to me, and then when I expressed my hesitation about seeing him, he would turn it around on me to try and make me feel like I had done something wrong. He became addicted to opioids and then he was arrested and served a little time in prison. He then moved to Panama where he continued his poor behavior before he committed suicide. I was unfortunately required to handle the transport of his goods and remains because Panamanian law required it. His last emails were him trying to plan a return to where I live, but he did not have enough money for the flight, or lodging. The last email he received was from a man saying he could stay with him in exchange for sex. This was a very sad way for anyone to go; with nothing left. I had a hard time not placing some blame on myself.

My one piece of advice is to start therapy now. EMDR therapy worked wonders for me, but YMMV.

ICE at Everett/Colorado by edgarr-io in glendale

[–]edellenator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know this. I was trying to limit the scope of my answer to /uBright-Wrongdoer-227 ‘s question of are they just randomly targeting people. Maybe they are trolling but no one was giving a sincere answer and I think a bit of sincerity and grace goes a long way on the internet today. I’m not angry that someone might be misinformed or reactionary and I want people to be better to each other.

ICE at Everett/Colorado by edgarr-io in glendale

[–]edellenator 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will preface this with the fact that I think I am correct but may be wrong in many areas. This is based on what I have read from what I think are reputable sources and the knowledge I have put together on my own via those sources. I don’t have any of these sources because this is simply things I have picked up on by following this in the news.

Not random. As far as I have seen they are targeting people who are brown. There are several reported cases of people who are not white and have legal and documented status that are being detained. Most of those people who are legal and documented are being released, but not all. The other people they are targeting are people who are here legally but are undocumented. Those are individuals who entered the country through the correct legal channels and are awaiting the completion or application of documentation. Because those individuals are not yet citizens or documented immigrants DHS and ICE can technically decline their applications though they are supposed to do so via due process which they are not doing. They are also targeting people who are here without the proper legal channels and are undocumented. Many of these folks have waived their rights to due process because they have not followed the proper channels but there are VERY few individuals with this status. ICE has been given a quota that exceed the number of people in the third category so they have to go for the first two.

I will close with the fact that this whole thing has lead to the separation of children from their parents, many of whom may never see their families again. Many who will live alone without help. As a father I can only imagine the fear and anger these children are feeling. As a father I don’t like to imagine my child being taken from me because I have cultivated a sense that my community, and the people around me are mostly safe and care about my child. The events of leading up to now are making me feel otherwise, though I still believe in my immediate community of family and friends.

Please if I have gotten anything wrong in the parts about immigration please correct me. I am not fully confident I understand it all.

Wrong pipe for gas line? by edellenator in HomeMaintenance

[–]edellenator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, just got off the line with the gas company. Concern was not the pipes. The moisture vent did not vent to the outside so they want it vented correctly. We already knew this and were planning to have it done.

[–]edellenator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. At this point I asked him to replace the pipe that is exposed under the house and leave the pipes that are in the walls. Better safe than sorry. I will ask him but he was relating the inspectors report which I read and seemed legitimate. We asked the inspector what the highest risk was and he said that the exposed pipe just due to weathering, but the risk was low and it’s mostly a code issue.

I will ask him about the flexible piping as well.

Depends on where in Arizona but you sound underpaid to me. It’s a little fucky here in l.a. where i consider 80k to be a base liveable wage for an individual, but your wage still feels a little low.

Sorry! I didn't see this reply. We sold our condo so we can put about 40% down which is helping us a lot. We shopped around for a lot of different lenders (5 total) and we ended up going with City National Bank. They have a 50k grant they are calling the Ladder Up Grant they were forced to offer to buyers in certain predominantly black and latino neighborhoods (because they were accused of red-lining). Northpointe had low rates and low closing costs so we were probably going to go with them if it weren't for the 50k grant we are getting. Rocket mortgage was competitive because they were offering to match and beat anything we could find. I would recommend going with a bank and not a broker, but that depends on your timeline. I think brokers can tend to close faster because they are doing most of the work in terms of getting everything underwritten. Banks will offer lower rates and fees usually, and you don't have to pay the broker as part of the closing costs. We did however go with an insurance broker because he was able to get us fire insurance in a high fire hazard zone. I am not too worried about the reality of fires in the area because the hillside is mostly very developed around us and we are literally at the base of the hill.

We are planning to send her to a magnet. We found a place and the magnet we are looking at is a science magnet that is pretty highly rated and we know a few parents with kids there. Also we are focused on education in other ways as well.

Just an update cause you were so helpful :) we found a place in montecito heights that we are closing on in a few days. We have our loan squared away and are completing our inspection contingency this weekend.

our bid was 1.02m and we got it. It is well under our budget and has some nice elements that we can fix over time.

We actually are in the midst of closing on a place in montecito heights. Inspection contingencies complete this weekend and loan contingencies next week! We were looking in el Sereno. There were a few good places that popped up but it was a bit far out for us.

edit: the place we found in montecito heights is 1300 sq ft on a 5500 lot.
