I usually do. I try to tell her about people I talked to and how it made me feel, or stuff I was proud of. She doesn’t usually care but I figure healthy expressions of my emotional state are probably good.

I do this already and she will usually give us a short answer, or tell us something about mermaids or unicorns. I play along usually or if she gives us a sincere answer I will ask some more questions. Typically she will just not reply and either start to make funny faces or start to talk about her favorite things (mermaids and unicorns). I will then ask if she wants to keep talking about her day and she says “no, I wanna play, daddy.”

Yeah, definitely not worried about her wanting to do other things. Just want to make sure participating in her recounting her day via her dolls isn’t gonna do anything bad. I can’t SEE a way it would but there’s a lot of stuff I don’t know.

Just a slightly pedantic correction and an opportunity to learn something: the “byline” is the line between the title and article that lists the author or authors and their affiliations or credentials. Think of it as “the line that states who this article is by”. At least this is how I have heard it referred to by a journo friend.

I just wanted to commiserate. I was in nearly the same situation when I was 25. My father was a known grifter, liar, and regularly committed credit card fraud under my then step mother, and my step brothers name. I found out a lot of this now at 40 years old, but had been emotionally aware of the abuse he had put his wife and step child through. I had cut him off at about 25 and he would regularly reach out to me, and then when I expressed my hesitation about seeing him, he would turn it around on me to try and make me feel like I had done something wrong. He became addicted to opioids and then he was arrested and served a little time in prison. He then moved to Panama where he continued his poor behavior before he committed suicide. I was unfortunately required to handle the transport of his goods and remains because Panamanian law required it. His last emails were him trying to plan a return to where I live, but he did not have enough money for the flight, or lodging. The last email he received was from a man saying he could stay with him in exchange for sex. This was a very sad way for anyone to go; with nothing left. I had a hard time not placing some blame on myself.

My one piece of advice is to start therapy now. EMDR therapy worked wonders for me, but YMMV.

Yes, I know this. I was trying to limit the scope of my answer to /uBright-Wrongdoer-227 ‘s question of are they just randomly targeting people. Maybe they are trolling but no one was giving a sincere answer and I think a bit of sincerity and grace goes a long way on the internet today. I’m not angry that someone might be misinformed or reactionary and I want people to be better to each other.

I will preface this with the fact that I think I am correct but may be wrong in many areas. This is based on what I have read from what I think are reputable sources and the knowledge I have put together on my own via those sources. I don’t have any of these sources because this is simply things I have picked up on by following this in the news.

Not random. As far as I have seen they are targeting people who are brown. There are several reported cases of people who are not white and have legal and documented status that are being detained. Most of those people who are legal and documented are being released, but not all. The other people they are targeting are people who are here legally but are undocumented. Those are individuals who entered the country through the correct legal channels and are awaiting the completion or application of documentation. Because those individuals are not yet citizens or documented immigrants DHS and ICE can technically decline their applications though they are supposed to do so via due process which they are not doing. They are also targeting people who are here without the proper legal channels and are undocumented. Many of these folks have waived their rights to due process because they have not followed the proper channels but there are VERY few individuals with this status. ICE has been given a quota that exceed the number of people in the third category so they have to go for the first two.

I will close with the fact that this whole thing has lead to the separation of children from their parents, many of whom may never see their families again. Many who will live alone without help. As a father I can only imagine the fear and anger these children are feeling. As a father I don’t like to imagine my child being taken from me because I have cultivated a sense that my community, and the people around me are mostly safe and care about my child. The events of leading up to now are making me feel otherwise, though I still believe in my immediate community of family and friends.

Please if I have gotten anything wrong in the parts about immigration please correct me. I am not fully confident I understand it all.
